Chapter 243: You're Always Stunning

Maggie paused, her words measured. "I simply wasn't ready, and I never anticipated this happening so soon." Her gaze fixed on Nathael, her confidence faltering. She worried about his reaction, unsure if he would be pleased.

"It's merely a meeting," Nathael reassured gently. "There's no need to feel burdened."

Maggie's gaze dropped, her silence filling the room. She knew her reaction seemed overly emotional. Persisting in her refusal might arouse his suspicions.

Oh, such a dilemma. she thought. What should I do? I hate the Camerons! Why are they still alive?

"They'll like you," Nathael said, his voice deep, his gaze unwavering and confident.

Lost in thought, Maggie barely heard him.

Noticing her distraction, Nathael rose and approached her. "What's occupying your thoughts?" he asked softly.

Maggie returned to the present. "Should I bring a gift? What would be suitable?"

Nathael leaned against the table, his gaze intense. She had a fair, delicate complexion and vibrant, watery eyes that held both mischief and liveliness. Despite her striking beauty, a hint of aloofness made her irresistibly captivating.

He affectionately pinched her cheek. "If you genuinely don't wish to attend, I'll refuse on your behalf," he murmured teasingly.

Remembering Clara's expression earlier, Maggie sighed, shook her head, and declared, "Let's proceed. But if I falter, you must help me." Nathael smiled faintly. "Certainly."

Maggie remained largely silent. In her past life, Nathael's mother hadn't liked her. She wanted to avoid repeating that mistake. She sensed his eagerness. Refusing would be like challenging the eldersโ€”unwise. Even if their future wasn't romantic, she wanted to spare Nathael conflict with his mother.

Once she decided to attend, Maggie's worries lessened. Realizing she hadn't eaten, she stood abruptly. "I must go home briefly. I have no suitable clothing here. Should I arrange another styling appointment?"

"What are your mother's preferences? Does your father like tea? Are we expecting other guests?" Nathael asked.

Anxiously, she rummaged through the limited clothing at Nathael's house. The meeting was that afternoon, and she hadn't begun to prepare.

"I'll arrange for some brands to deliver their newest collections. You can choose what you like. And if you need a stylist, I'll arrange one," he said. His calm demeanor soothed her frazzled nerves.

Maggie hesitated. "Would a stylist be too much?" she wondered if it was necessary for a casual family gathering.

Nathael drew closer, gently cradling her face. Her reflection shimmered in his dark eyes. "Nevertheless, you're always stunning," he murmured.

Maggie blushed. "Don't try to charm or flatter me now," she whispered. That will only make me lose my composure! she thought.

Thirty minutes later, representatives from several well-known brands arrived at Nathael's villa with their latest collections.

Maggie watched as they showcased their products. Working quickly, she chose a delicate pink satin off-the-shoulder gown. Its simple elegance was both opulent and appropriate. The gently draped sleeves added a touch of allure.

After choosing the dress, Maggie focused on her makeup and grooming, deciding against a stylist. She reasoned that if she disliked the stylist's work, alterations would be too much trouble.

She fussed over her appearance while Nathael, already in his suit, sat on the sofa, listening to the brands' presentations.

"Let's keep all of these pieces," Nathael said. "Some can go in the wardrobe, and we'll put a few seasonal styles in the bedroom."

For almost two hours, he attentively watched presentations from top brands showcasing women's apparel and handbags. He also finalized a deal for a significant amount of jewelry before selecting a set for Maggie.

As the waiter arrived with the jewelry, Maggie finished her preparations. As the moment approached, her heart quickened. This was her first formal meeting with his family. She still wasn't sure if Clara would approve.

Her reflection was captivating: long hair like seaweed, a delicate face, softly arched eyebrows, and a serene yet aloof auraโ€”like a moonlit mountain stream or a snow lotus.

"Ms. Adam, this is a gift from Mr. Harris," the saleswoman announced, presenting a jewelry set.

Maggie's surprise was evident. Nathael had chosen an aquamarine set: a necklace with a prominent aquamarine centerpiece, a princess-style bracelet with aquamarine and diamonds, and mismatched earrings.

The saleswoman helped Maggie put on the jewelry. Maggie raised her eyebrows in surprise at her reflection. The jewelry truly enhanced her beauty.

"What's your verdict?" Nathael asked, his gaze fixed on Maggie.

Maggie smiled. "What's your opinion, Mr. Harris?"

Nathael was momentarily captivated. Her subtle makeup and composed demeanor evoked memories of their student days. But her gentle gaze stirred something deep within him.

"Absolutely stunning," he said, smiling.

The saleswoman tactfully left. Nathael lifted Maggie and seated her on the dressing table. His dark eyes lingered on her lips. "I fear we may be running late" he whispered.

Maggie glanced at the clock. "Are we?" she asked.

Before she could finish, Nathael leaned in and kissed her.

He longed to see her in bridal attire. Above all, he yearned to build a home with her, a place where their love would flourish.
