Chapter 25: Ms. Adam, You've Crossed the Line

Upon receiving the message, Maggie inwardly cursed.

Nathael took a cold shower in the small bathroom, feeling cramped compared to what he was used to. Everything in sight belonged to herโ€”the faint pink color, the cute floral-shaped shower straps, the various scented toiletries, the cartoon-patterned cups.

He forced himself to look away, letting the cold water pour over his head to calm his restlessness.

While Maggie was stewing the ribs and curry, she remembered Nathael might not have a towel. She turned down the heat and went to her room to find one.

Unfortunately, the only remaining towel was light pink with a strawberry bear on it. It looked adorable, but undeniably girly.

Maggie hesitated, glanced at the other two used towels in the cupboard, and dismissed the thought.

A knocking sound echoed.

"Nathael, do you need a towel?"

Hearing her voice, he turned off the shower. A few seconds later, the door opened slightly, and a clean, slender male hand reached out.

"This is new. Just make do with it."

"Okay."

Nathael took the towel. He noticed the pale pink color and the cartoon bear. He was speechless.

The moment their fingers brushed, Maggie was stunned. His fingers were coldโ€”colder than before. She blinked and blurted out, "You used cold water."

The bathroom door opened, and Nathael, his strong, pale torso exposed, said in a deep voice, "I had to cool down."

Maggie understood, her cheeks flushing slightly. She muttered, "But aren't youโ€ฆ can you also get aroused?"

Nathael narrowed his eyes and said deeply, "What?"

"You're absolutely right!" Maggie looked up at him sincerely, affirming him seriously. She had to uphold his dignity as a man!

His eyes were deep, filled with a desire like the deep sea under a night sky. They held extreme temptation amidst a storm, but were dangerous enough to make her heart race and feel uneasy. Maggie pretended not to understand, her ears reddening.

She looked straight at him and asked, "Nathael, do you like me a lot?"

Her eyes were clear; the warm ceiling light reflected in her pupils. She looked focused and charming.

Probably not expecting her boldness, Nathael pressed his lips together, not responding immediately.

Finally, just when Maggie thought she wouldn't get an answer, he slowly said, "Ms. Adam, you've crossed the line."

Maggie raised an eyebrow. She wasn't surprised; it was better than she'd imagined.

She looked at him. His hair was half-dry and slightly messy, making him look less restrained, wilder, more unruly. His eyes exuded a fierce aura.

His eyes were thin and deep, his gaze sharp and black as inkโ€”like an astonishing ink painting. His lips were thin and slightly red from the shower. Maggie wondered if it was her imagination, but they seemed swollen.

His broad shoulders, slim waist, narrow hips, and nearly 1.9-meter height were almost perfectly proportioned. He seemed to surpass all other men. "Happy with what you see?"

Noticing her gaze, Nathael patiently let her look at him.

Maggie's eyes followed his tight lines downward. He'd wrapped the mismatched pink towel around his waist; the strawberry bear conveniently covered his crotch. Maggie was speechless.

She would never look at a strawberry bear the same way again!

She averted her gaze and said, curling her lip, "You look good in pink."

Maggie didn't wait for a response before returning to the kitchen. She seemed to be in a good mood.

The dishes were almost ready, so Maggie prepared the vegetables, recalling scenes between her and Nathael.

Before her rebirth, Nathael had appeared in her life several times. Once, at a cocktail party, she'd encountered a problem, and Nathael helped. Not only did she not thank him, but she mocked him. "Why do you keep helping me, Mr. Harris?" she'd asked coldly, unappreciative of his assistance.

Nathael's eyes were as dark as ink. Before he could speak, she laughed and continued, "Mr. Harris, do you happen to like me?"

She'd seen his surprise at her directness. Yet, before he could respond, she'd plunged him into a cold abyss: "You might as well not waste your time. I would never like someone like you, even if I were blind."

Thinking of this, Maggie's movements slowed as she chopped vegetables, unspeakable sadness welling up in her heart.

She couldn't remember his expression, but he must have felt desolate and heartbroken. It was retributionโ€ฆ later, she did go blindโ€ฆ

Even though she hated him and her eyes were clouded by hatred, she ultimately fell in love with him uncontrollably.

Maggie's eyes reddened, hating herself for never truly knowing him, learning about him only from others. She truly was the world's most ridiculous fool.

The food was ready. However, by the time Maggie served the meal, it was already half past seven.

Nathael had changed clothesโ€”likely a suit Alex had brought. The deep navy blue was understated and clean; the white shirt's style remained the same. Only Maggie, with her keen observation, noticed the change in the collar's embroidered pattern, delicately woven with white silk thread.

After serving the food, Maggie sat across from Nathael.

"I hope it suits your taste. Please give it a try."

She served him seafood curry, her eyes filled with anticipation. They'd spent a lot of time together in their previous life, but rarely had a proper meal. Maggie's eyes welled up; she'd missed too many opportunities for happiness.

"No, it tastes delicious." Nathael casually picked up his cutlery, tasting each dish under Maggie's hopeful gaze before speaking earnestly.
