Chapter 275: My Girlfriend

Maggie covered Nathael's mouth to stop him from speaking, then snatched his phone and ended the call. Nathael narrowed his eyes at her in puzzlement.

"You shouldn't have said that," Maggie scolded, tossing his phone aside. Despite not knowing the details of Joyce and Jimmy's relationship, Maggie didn't want Joyce involved in anything dangerous. She knew Joyce had dated someone and broken up with them. As for Jimmy, Maggie knew nothing about him. Did Nathael and Jimmy know each other?

"How long do you think she can keep avoiding him?" Nathael asked, removing Maggie's hand.

"Are you saying Joyce is avoiding him? What did he do to her? Is he trying to sleep with her?" Maggie was frustrated. "Jimmy is not a good guy!"

Nathael raised his eyebrows, reluctant to continue the conversation. Suddenly, a loud knock startled them. Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Open up, routine check!" a man's voice called out.

Maggie frowned. "What are they checking?" she muttered, instantly suspecting another plot against her. She quickly fixed her appearance and asked Nathael, "Is my hair alright? My lipstick?"

"It's fine," he reassured her.

"Open the door now, or we'll barge in!" the man outside threatened impatiently.

After Maggie finished, Nathael opened the door, displeased at the interruption. "Who are you?"

The man began to question them, pausing when he recognized Nathael. "Hey, Mr. Harris, it's you."

"What's wrong?" Nathael asked coldly. His glare made the man tremble.

"Sorry, Mr. Harris. We didn't know it was you. We received a report of misconduct and investigated accordingly. Please forgive us," the man apologized awkwardly, silently cursing the person who filed the report.

The younger inspectors stared at Nathael. One rudely asked, "Who's inside?"

The man in charge snapped, "Shut up! Who permitted you to speak?"

Nathael explained, "I had a fight with my girlfriend, and I'm here to coax her."

Maggie emerged from the room and joined Nathael. Everyone was stunned by her beauty. Dressed in a pink gown with a bow at the back, she captivated their attention.

Nathael introduced Maggie to Jerry Jones from the Aquapolis Department of Education. Jerry was surprised by Nathael's attitude and looked at Maggie cautiously. He'd only met Nathael twice through a superior who was also a Harris. He assumed wealthy young men like Nathael didn't date seriously and felt unlucky to have stumbled upon this scene. He hadn't expected Nathael to be so serious, even formally introducing Maggie. Nathael had a good reputation, and Jerry had never heard of any scandal involving him. This made him friendlier toward Maggie.

"Hello. It's a misunderstanding."

"Thanks for your hard work, Mr. Jones. However, I must mention that although the Harrises are investors, I'm not responsible for the competition. It uses a judging and voting system; I wouldn't be foolish enough to manipulate it."

Jerry quickly agreed, "You're right, Mr. Harris. This so-called report is simply absurd!"

"Anything else, Mr. Jones?" Nathael asked, holding Maggie's hand tightly.

Maggie looked at him. She knew he was handsome, but standing up for her and acknowledging her made him seem different. He glowed under the lights. Her heart pounded; she was infatuated with him.

"Please excuse us," the man quickly said, making way for them.

Jerry looked at Maggie hesitantly. Maggie smiled at him. "Mr. Jones, do you have something to say?"

"Ms. Adam plays the piano very well, and I really like it. However, since there's been a report, someone will likely fuss over it. You should be prepared for that." Jerry didn't believe Nathael and Maggie were doing anything wrong. If the Harrises wanted something, people would have already obeyed them.

Maggie smiled softly. "Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Jones."

Nathael accompanied Maggie to the dressing room. He kissed her forehead and whispered, "Don't worry. I'm here for you."

"Do I look worried? I won't be affected by others."

"Go ahead, I'll be waiting for you backstage."

Maggie looked up at him. "I'm really happy you're here." Absence truly made the heart grow fonder.

Nathael gulped. He wanted to marry her as soon as possible to keep her by his side.

After Maggie entered the dressing room, Nathael called Alex. "Ask the PR Department to send out a message encouraging votes for Maggie."

Alex was speechless. Do you have to make it this official? Single people are going to be so envious!
