Chapter 279: Are You Trying to Make Me Angry?

Nathael's palm enveloped Maggie's delicate hand, his fingers tracing idle patterns on her skin. Maggie looked at his profile, finding him disturbingly content. Despite her recent aloofness, he seemed oblivious to her coldness.

"Whoever said you had a fiery temper doesn't know you," he said. "You always have a very good temper. Even if I had done many things to hurt you in my previous life, you always forgave me."

Interrupting his absent-minded gesture, Maggie asked, "Is there anything I can do that will make you stop forgiving me?"

Nathael paused, his brows furrowing in thought as he turned to her with solemn intensity. "I honestly don't know," he admitted. He genuinely didn't. Despite his reputed bad temper, he had always shown her boundless patience and understanding. The notion of something unforgivable had never entered his mind.

Maggie, however, had a wild idea that blossomed into reckless curiosity. "What about if I slept with someone else? Betrayed your trust? Or cheated?" she blurted out. The comfortable warmth of the atmosphere dissipated into a chilling silence.

Sensing the change, Maggie felt a shiver. His gaze turned frigid, his eyes darkening. "Are you trying to make me angry?" Under his gaze, Maggie remained silent. Even imagining Nathael with another woman was unacceptable. Simple intimacy would tarnish his image in her heart. He wasn't that kind of man. Among their elite circles, Nathael was renowned for his steadfast loyalty.

Lost in thought, Maggie winced as he gripped her wrist. "What's wrong?" she asked.

"You're still thinking of someone else when I'm here," Nathael said, his voice low and dissatisfied.

Maggie raised an eyebrow, a wry smile playing on her lips. "Are you jealous? It's just a thought; you won't miss anything. Besides, I'm pondering the women who have been with you." His complexion darkened.

Before she could finish, Nathael cupped her chin and kissed her firmly and possessively. A murmur of excitement arose around them, making Maggie's cheeks, neck, and ears flush. She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened.

Just as Maggie gathered her thoughts, a sharp "click" pierced the air, followed by a flash. Maggie's face turned even redder. She pushed Nathael away, and they both turned to see a girl in the back row.

"Sorry, I forgot to turn off the flash," the girl explained calmly.

Unexpectedly, Nathael said, "Add Maggie on WhatsApp and send her the photos later. Thanks."

Maggie yanked his sleeve, believing him insane. The girl enthusiastically agreed, "No worries! I'll send them to Maggie soon. I'm not boasting, but I took a great photo!" She offered her phone to show them.

Maggie wished she could hide, but Nathael remained unfazed. "Indeed, it's a very well-shot photo," he remarked.

Under the dim light, Maggie saw the blue stage lights casting an ethereal glow. She was in a pink gown, and Nathael looked dashing in his suit. They were sharing a passionate kiss. The photo captured a beautiful moment; they were the center of attention.

Returning her phone, the girl looked uncomfortable. "We can capture a better shot. How about another kiss?" she suggested. Maggie waved her hand frantically. "No need. This picture is perfect."

After a pause, Nathael asked the girl, "Shall we try a different pose?"

The girl's face lit up. "Absolutely!"

Maggie was furious. She tugged on Nathael's sleeve and whispered, "Don't you have any shame?"

Nathael raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "What's the use of shame?"

Taking a deep breath, Maggie felt they were from different worlds. As they talked, oblivious to their surroundings, the girl took two more photos, leaving Maggie frozen.

Maggie had to interrupt with a "Thank you", while Nathael added, "Don't forget the photos."

Maggie covered his mouth. "Shut up, seriously."

Undeterred, the girl took a couple more shots before finally stopping, leaving Maggie flustered. Time flew by in a whirlwind of snapshots.

The focus shifted to Sierra, who gracefully took the stage in a pristine white gown and ruby jewelry provided by Luster Corporation. Gone was the aloof heiress; she exuded a serene charm.

"Sierra's previous performance left a lasting impression. I wonder what she prepared this time? Are you confident?" the host asked.

Sierra, holding a microphone, replied softly, "I've dedicated myself to this moment, pouring my heart and soul into preparation. I hope for the best outcome." Her guarded facade was replaced by vulnerability.

"Don't worry. Regardless of the outcome, your hard work will shine through. I have every faith in your success. You will definitely get a good ranking," the host reassured.

"Thank you. I'll give it my all," Sierra replied.

Maggie believed the host had the finest intentions, particularly for the First Institute students. Did Sierra truly deserve this kindness? Was she worthy of such unwavering support?
