Chapter 299: I'm Innocent
He had prepared other food for her, but she had no appetite. She ate only a little, watching Nathael finish the rest. He was so handsome; being intimate with him felt nice. They were now closer to each other.
Nathael carried Maggie back to bed. "'I'll make you some soup later," he said.
Maggie didn't want to stay in bed. Nathael brought her to the living room to sunbathe. Hugging her, he said, "You seem to have lost weight."
"Really?" Maggie was surprised she'd lost weight in just two days.
Nathael kissed her hair, then regretted it. "I shouldn't have touched you yesterday." She still hadn't fully recovered from the incident, but he'd lost control.
Maggie turned, wrapped her arms around his neck, and whispered seductively, "But opportunities like this don't come twice."
Nathael's eyes darkened as he kissed her neck. "Don't tempt me. You know I can't resist you."
Maggie was happy. "But you rejected me last time."
"And I regret it."
That night, Maggie remained in bed with a fever. Nathael brought his work into the bedroom. Listening to the quiet rustling of papers, Maggie slept soundly.
He watched over her, but the medicine wasn't effective. Late at night, her temperature spiked to 102.2°F. Nathael immediately took her to the hospital and called Leslie.
Leslie, wearing a grey turtleneck under his white coat, looked tired from a long day. He examined Maggie's data and frowned. "It's unusual. Perhaps it's just the fever. Let's observe her first."
Maggie was soon hooked up to an IV. Exhausted, she could barely keep her eyes open, but she was nervous about Nathael bringing Leslie. She feared he'd notice something was wrong. Fortunately, the fever provided a plausible explanation. Otherwise, she didn't know how she would have explained it.
Leslie looked at her and asked, "Do you feel unwell besides the fever?"
Maggie hesitated, then answered, "My body aches."
Leslie adjusted his glasses and chuckled. "It's Nathael's fault. He's too rough on you."
Maggie blushed furiously. She'd hoped the blush would mask the other symptoms and divert Leslie's attention from the data, but she hadn't expected that conclusion. Quack! Quack doctor!
Leslie smiled and patted Nathael's shoulder. "Don't be too rough on her; her body can't handle it."
Nathael frowned silently.
After Leslie left, the room fell quiet. Maggie glared at Nathael. "You embarrassed me!"
Seeing her active again, Nathael felt relieved. He pinched her face. "I can make it up to you. Or, would you like to be on top next time?"
Maggie stared at him in disbelief. He's irritating! What the hell? He has no shame!
Blushing, Maggie covered her ears. "Your mind is filled with dirty thoughts!"
Nathael adjusted her pillow, checked the IV drip, and said mischievously, "You're the one who taught me to be bad."
He added innocently, "I didn't know any of this before."
