Chapter 317: Who Is He?

Maggie Shen lay in bed for a while before slowly getting up.

Nathael reached out to pull her back, whispering, "Just sleep a little longer."

"Ronald said Joseph is in trouble, but I'm not sure what happened," Maggie said, Nathael's arms wrapped around her waist, her hands pressed against his chest. Reluctantly, she lay back down.

Nathael's eyes remained closed; his voice was still husky. He said, "Just a broken leg."

Maggie was stunned. She blinked in surprise and asked, "How do you know?"

The words were barely out before she realized something. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "Did you do that to him?"

Before she could finish, Nathael opened his eyes and kissed her firmly. "You're too loud," he muttered.

The questions swirling in Maggie's mind turned to shock. "Nathael Harris, haven't you kissed me enough?"

As their kiss deepened, Maggie felt him fully awake, his actions becoming more intense.

"Not yet," Nathael's deep voice held a hint of amusement as he looked into her eyes. His dark pupils sparkled with humor, yet he seemed serious.

Maggie gasped for breath. She widened her eyes and glared at him. "You need to understand moderation," she advised earnestly. "You're not young anymore. Don't indulge excessively, or it might backfire."

She was serious, feeling she was on the verge of losing her mind. Last night, she couldn't count how many times she'd called his name. The thought made her blush. Later, he'd become even more insistent, constantly asking her to say, "I love you." Too shy to say it, he kept teasing her until she finally gave in, repeatedly uttering the words until he was satisfied and released her. "You're quite knowledgeable," Nathael teased, prolonging the banter.

Eventually, seeing the dark circles and red streaks in her eyes, he took pity on her and stopped.

After lunch, Maggie hurried back to the Camerons' residence.

Lucas sat on the couch, laptop on his lap, headphones on, absorbed in his game. His demeanor was distant and silent. "When did you get here?" Maggie asked gently.

Lucas glanced up. Seeing Maggie, his usually expressionless face brightened slightly. "Maggie."

Maggie ruffled his messy chestnut hair. It looked good on him.

"Maggie's home," Joseph and Master Cameron came downstairs, their expressions grim.

"Dad, what happened to Joseph?" Maggie asked with concern.

Ronald's expression darkened. "Yesterday, after he got drunk, someone broke his leg and he suffered other injuries. Is this connected to Mr. Harris?"

Master Cameron added, "I asked him and Vanessa. They said they only had a minor argument with you two yesterday."

Maggie was utterly confused. After a moment of stunned silence, she said, "Nathael might not have been happy, especially since Joseph kept confessing to me in front of him. I don't know what he was thinking. I'm not sure if this is Nathael's doing."

Lucas, fingers flying across his keyboard, was listening intently. "How's Joseph? Is it serious? Never mind, I'll go see for myself."

Maggie, with a concerned expression, hurried upstairs, followed by Ronald and Master Cameron.

She knocked on Joseph's door. A few seconds later, red-eyed Vanessa opened it. Seeing Maggie, she froze.

"I came to check on Joseph," Maggie said calmly.

Vanessa's expression changed, venom in her gaze. "Maggie, Joseph always treated you well. How could you let Mr. Harris do this to him?" Maggie ignored her and stepped inside.

Joseph lay in the luxurious bedroom, eyes open, agitated to see Maggie. He struggled to move. Maggie paused, wondering who this person was. He had thick bandages around his head, a swollen and bruised face, and one leg elevated in a cast.

She might have underestimated Nathael's desire for revenge.

"How did it get this serious?" Maggie asked Ronald.

"I'd like to ask Mr. Harris the same question," Ronald replied sternly, his complexion ashen. He was clearly unhappy about his son's beating.

Master Cameron added, "Maggie, our family always treated you well. Even though you and Joseph didn't end up together, you grew up together. How could you let Nathael do this?" Maggie was silent for a moment before blurting out, "Dad, I'm not sure if it was Mr. Harris, but if I were him, I might have given Joseph a lesson too."

"Maggie! What do you mean? Have you no conscience?" Madam Cameron's angry voice rang out from the hallway.

Olivia, red-eyed, supported the elderly woman into the room.

Maggie hesitated, then decided to play Alex's video from the previous day. The recording contained Joseph's confession: "Nathael would never marry you. He's just having fun with you. Even if I made a mistake, at least I was serious about you. Maggie, you have to believe me; I'll treat you right from now on. You and Nathael aren't a good match. The Harrises wouldn't accept someone with your background. Dad only wanted you to get close to Nathael to gain some benefits; he never really cared about you. I don't even like Vanessa. She can't compare to you. Give me another chance, okay?"

Silence fell as the recording played. Everyone's expression turned ugly. Joseph struggled to speak, his swollen lips preventing him from forming words. Vanessa's face paled, tears welling. She choked out, "Joseph, how could you do this to me?"

Maggie smiled coldly. Vanessa's reaction didn't matter; Ronald's did. His already gloomy face became grimmer, his eyes dark and chilling.
