Chapter 37: Ups!

Lucas was momentarily taken aback. His expression was complicated. "Really?"

Although his mother's surname was Cameron, he inexplicably disliked the Camerons. Conversely, he'd always had a good relationship with his cousin Maggie, with whom he shared no blood relation. His aversion to the Camerons was inexplicable; he always felt rebellious.

But he had no choice. Maggie liked them, and they hadn't done anything to him, so he pretended to like them. Therefore, he felt inexplicably excited when he heard of Joseph's death.

He shouldn't feel this way. This shouldn't be happening! He shouldn't feel this way!

Lucas tried to appear more grief-stricken. After a long pause, he slowly said, "I will buy him flowers to commemorate his death."

Maggie remained silent.

After hanging up, Maggie fell into deep thought.

Lucas's grandfather, Owen Cameron, was Master Cameron's younger brother. He had only one daughter, Sophia Cameron. Tragically, after Owen died of illness, Sophia and her husband perished during an inspection trip, leaving only Lucas, who was then adopted by Master Cameron.

In her previous life, Maggie never doubted Master Cameron. However, even Lucas probably didn't expect that a few months after graduating, he'd break his leg in an accident at a Cameron family banquet and subsequently become depressed. His already rebellious personality became even more withdrawn.

Thinking this, Maggie leaned back, closed her eyes, and lost herself in thought. Lucas, like her, had grown up among the Camerons, but unlike her, he'd spent most of his time with them. Master Finch, having lost his son, naturally doted on his grandson. Lucas was extremely talented with computer systems. In her previous life, after Maggie was disfigured and blinded, Lucas disappeared. Later, she heard from Mia that the Camerons had apparently offended some powerful hackers who, when angered, would expose their misdeeds. Maggie never had a chance to learn the truth, so she never believed those accusations.

Maggie pondered. Lucas's leg injury occurred when he fell from a ladder while installing a light at a Cameron banquet. She couldn't remember the occasion, only that she was in charge and Master Cameron and his entourage were heavily involved. The main light malfunctioned, and the workers couldn't fix it before the banquet. So, she asked Lucas, who was gaming, to fix it. He always had been kind to her and didn't refuse. Unfortunately, the ladder was faulty, and he fell seven or eight meters onto a pile of debris and tools. A knife blade pierced his foot tendons, leaving him permanently disabled.

Thinking this, Maggie smiled bitterly. She had harmed many people.

She found Lucas's number and texted: "Remember, don't install lights."

Lucas, just getting into bed, looked at the message, puzzled. Seconds later, he replied: "Are you scolding me?"

Maggie was speechless. Forget it. One step at a time.

Maggie checked the time in Nathael's location and called the hotel.

"Hello, could you please help me order a romantic breakfast?"

"Certainly. Heart-shaped egg? Okay, thank you."

"For the signature just Ms. Adam."

Maggie hesitated. She'd considered "Mr. Harris' sweetheart," but feared it might scare Nathael, so she chose Ms. Adam. He'd know who it was anyway.

She looked out the window. The moon shone brightly, stars scattered across the clear sky.

The next morning, Nathael woke early after three or four hours' sleep. Room service hadn't arrived. Alex entered to discuss the schedule. "Mr. Harris, isn't it too rushed?"

Alex hesitated, concerned for Nathael's well-being.

"No. I need to return early. Something important." Nathael signed a document. His handsome face was cold, but his mood seemed good.

Alex tried to think of any overlooked matters, but couldn't. Seeing Nathael's good mood, he asked, "Important project?"

"No, I left my watch at Maggie's house," Nathael casually explained.

Alex looked puzzled. How could a watch at Maggie's house be important? He didn't understand! Did Nathael lack watches? Could his servants not retrieve it? He couldn't comprehend it, but only smiled.

Soon, breakfast arrived. The waiter said, while setting the table, "Mr. Harris, Ms. Adam ordered egg noodles." Alex was perplexed. Someone was pulling strings.

Nathael put down the document and went to the table. The breakfast was diverse, including a bowl of steaming hot noodle soup. He usually ate coffee and bread, or tea; he disliked feeling too full or cold.

Alex tiptoed to peek. A perfectly heart-shaped egg!

Nathael gazed at the noodles, lost in thought. He sat to eat when the phone rang. He frowned and went to the study. "Good morning, Mr. Smith."

The door opened again. A handsome man with a brow scar and cap entered, stoic. He was young, in his early twenties, silent and captivating, like an unsheathed sword.

"Good morning," Alex greeted quietly, ready for gossip. But Nolan's gaze was fixed on the breakfast, heading straight for it.

"Hey!" Alex shouted, but Nolan bit into the heart-shaped egg before he finished. The silent man devoured the food swiftly.
