Chapter 396: I Thought You Intended to Ignore Me Forever
Mia spent the afternoon with Maggie, lifting her spirits somewhat. After the upstairs maid left, Maggie and Mia whispered about Maggie's escape plan.
As evening approached, they heard a car pull into the yard. Mia rushed to the window. "Gotta go! Your big devil's back!" she whispered urgently. Mia was nervous about encountering Nathael; he seemed both mysterious and shady.
However, as Mia reached the bottom of the stairs, she ran into Nathael. "Mr. Harris, you're home early," she greeted, forcing a smile.
Nathael replied coldly, "Ms. Garlin, if you don't want to involve your family, be clear about what's possible and what's not."
This angered Mia. They had barely begun strategizing, and he seemed to know their plans. Worried about Maggie's escape, she replied casually, "Mr. Harris, that's interesting. What exactly do you see Maggie as now that you're keeping her locked up?"
Nathael's gaze turned colder. Mia, dressed in a sleek black dress, stood confidently on the stairs, two steps above him. "Mr. Harris, we're all adults. If it's mutual, there's nothing to fuss about."
Nathael chuckled coldly. "Well, make sure you're not picking the wrong opponent!"
Upstairs, Maggie listened, her heart sinking. The situation was growing more precarious. She had to try to escape, despite the risks.
Mia chuckled. "Mr. Harris, take care of yourself." After Mia left, the upstairs was quiet except for the maid cooking.

Nathael found Maggie upstairs, seemingly engrossed in her phone. While her eyes remained on the screen, her attention was clearly on him. He placed a bouquet of blue and purple flowers beside her.
Maggie continued playing her game. Nathael hung up his coat, checked on dinner, and then said, "I'm going to shower. Let me know if you want anything to eat." She remained silent. He stared at her before entering the bathroom.
The sound of running water helped Maggie relax slightly. She gazed at the beautiful but melancholic bouquet. She didn't touch them, instead covering her face with a pillow to hide her sadness.
She and Mia had spent the afternoon planning. Mia would return in the next few days to slip drugs into the guards' food. Lucas would then jam communications and block the area, allowing Leo and his team to rescue them.
They'd reviewed the plan several times, unsure of its success, but it was their only option. Maggie didn't dwell on the risks. Life wasn't easy; sometimes you just endure the hurt.
Hearing the maid cooking, Maggie got up and went to the dining table. Nathael soon emerged in pajamas. Maggie barely ate, setting down her fork as Nathael sat down. She then went to the bedroom.

She avoided him completely. Nathael, losing his appetite, stared at the untouched food, his anger evident. He suppressed his rage and went to the bedroom. Maggie headed to the bathroom to shower.
In past lives, they'd discussed separation often, so she knew how to provoke him. But this life felt different; her attempts to be harsh seemed ineffective. Looking in the mirror, she saw her weariness.
She was running out of time and needed to regain control. She turned on the shower, letting the water wash away her sadness.
Nathael entered the bedroom, but didn't find her. He stood outside the bathroom, listening to the running water, feeling the distance between them. He eventually opened the door.
Maggie jumped, startled by his sudden appearance. "Whatwhat do you think you're doing?" she exclaimed.
He grabbed her wrist, pushing her against the wall. "I thought you were planning to ignore me forever."
