Chapter 377 Arenโt We Just Performing?
Maggieโs abrupt movement took everyone by surprise, particularly when she unveiled a concealed dagger. Sierraโs complexion drained, and her eyes betrayed unmistakable dread.
The dagger possessed a keen edge and was slender and frigid, casting a shimmer of frosty gleam. It hovered menacingly near her tender throat, inducing a faint prickle as a droplet of crimson appeared.
With merely a fraction more force, it threatened to breach her flesh.
Sierra quivered, the fleeting victory she had tasted moments prior now supplanted by dread, tears brimming in her eyes.
The two mercenaries beside them seemed surprised by this turn of events, and they immediately aimed their weapons at Maggie.
A foreign man, fluent in English with a resonant timbre, declared, โSet her free, or I will shoot!โ
A smirk played upon Maggieโs lips as she remarked, โRather than fretting over her, your attention ought to be on your allies beyond these walls. Should you dare lay a finger on me, departure from this place alive will not be an option.โ
Her eyes held a profound intensity, unyielding as they met the manโs gaze.
Furrowing his brow, the man prepared to address Maggie when his team caught wind of something, hastening towards the door and conversing swiftly in a foreign language.
Following suit, the man cautiously joined his team, stealing a glance out the window before uttering a curse in English under his breath. โIs this an undercover operative? This is a trap! Whatโs the meaning of this?โ
He bellowed in fury, his agitation palpable.
Observing his distraction, Sierra couldnโt suppress her anxiety. โYou canโt disregard me! You vowed to protect me!โ
Maggie sneered, murmuring into her ear, โTheyโre occupied with other matters. Where would they find the time to bother with you? It would already be seen as merciful if the mastermind behind all of this didnโt kill you first.โ
Sierra was terrified, fearing that any sudden movement from Maggie might cause the dagger in her hand to plunge into her neck.
She didnโt want to die here, even though her life was already a mess. She wasnโt ready to die yet!
โMaggie, no matter what, our family has raised you for so many years. Please calm down. If something happens to me, my parents will never let you off.โ Her voice trembled as she softened her stance.
Maggie sneered, โSo youโre afraid too? It hurts when the knife cuts you, doesnโt it?โ
โMaggie, I was just confused for a moment. I was jealous of you! But I never meant to harm you. The things I said earlier were just to show off. Iโve always treated you like a sister. Why are you treating me like this?โ
Sierra squeezed out a few tears, her words a mix of truth and falsehood.
Maggie raised an eyebrow and spoke softly, โSister? That just goes to show that in your eyes, blood ties mean nothing!โ
โFurthermore, do you think Ronald and Olivia will come to your rescue or seek revenge for you just because they know? No, they wonโt. Youโre already a lost cause. Olivia has a son to protect, and Ronald will do everything he can to distance himself from you!โ
Maggieโs words seemed to have struck a nerve with Sierra. She gritted her teeth, her eyes reddening.
โEverything is your fault! Our family showed you kindness, yet youโre ungrateful! People like you deserve to be banished to the orphanage for eternity!โ
Sierra spoke out angrily, perhaps feeling that even if she begged for mercy, Maggie would not let her off. She didnโt even consider the kindness the Camerons had shown her. Otherwise, how could she have done so many things?
Maggie remained impassive, her words deliberate. โYou know, I once dreamt of someone gouging out my eyes and disfiguring my face. You feigned concern for me, covertly undermining my relationship with Nathael. I trusted you, only to realise in the end that you orchestrated it all.โ
Her demeanour, seemingly casual, bore the chilling semblance of a venomous serpent, sending shivers down Sierraโs spine as she trembled uncontrollably.
โThis isnโt right! It was just a dream! You canโt punish me because of something that happened in a dream!โ Furious, Sierra couldnโt understand how her carefully laid plans had crumbled because of a mere dream!
Why did fate seem so unfair, granting Maggie such a dream? What had she done to deserve this?
โEven if itโs just a dream, its parallels to reality are uncanny. Nevertheless, your wishes wonโt be granted. Starting now, youโll spend the remainder of your days in jail.โ
โMaggie! I swear, Iโll kill you! If I get the chance, I wonโt hesitate to take it!โ
The mere idea of the chilling prison caused Sierra to thrash about fiercely, tears welling up in her eyes.
However, Maggieโs grip on her neck remained steadfast, and Sierra, being shorter than Maggie, found herself unable to break free.
Sierraโs eyes fixed on Maggieโs arm, and she struggled to bite off a piece of flesh from it.
Regrettably, Maggie didnโt afford her the opportunity.
Perhaps provoked by her actions, Maggie raised her hand and slashed Sierraโs face.
Bright crimson blood trickled down Sierraโs pale cheek, staining it with a vivid mark.
โAh! My face!โ she screamed in agony.
Maggie seemed unaffected, as if this were a scene she had witnessed before, the knife that had once scarred her face in her previous life now finding closure and freedom in this moment.
Suddenly, the door was flung open with force by someone. All the mercenaries were detained, and Maggie shoved Sierra away. Sierra stumbled and fell to the ground, holding her cheek where blood was trickling down, her expression dazed.
โSomeone, help me! Thereโs a murder!โ
Spotting someone enter, Sierra saw a potential savior. She hurriedly crawled forward, clutching onto the personโs thigh, tears and blood mingling on her face. โHelp me! This woman is crazy! Sheโs lost her mind!โ
โApologies, Ms. Cameron, but youโre suspected of kidnapping, contracting a hitman, inflicting deliberate harm, and other offenses. Youโll need to come with us.โ
A chill ran down Sierraโs spine as the cold voice echoed in the room. Before she could even comprehend what was happening, the icy embrace of handcuffs enveloped her wrists.
โIt wasnโt me!โ She protested frantically, her voice tinged with desperation. โThe one who scarred my face was Maggie! Why arenโt you arresting her?โ
Sierra fought with all her might, her hair in disarray as she squirmed on the floor. In the midst of her struggle, one of her high heels slipped off, further adding to her unkempt look.
Maggie stood frozen, her complexion drained of colour, wearing a vacant expression.
Every person carries a darkness within, but itโs crucial not to let it engulf you.
Nathaelโs lips, drawn tight, hurried to her side at the sight of her pale face. He enveloped her in a tight embrace, murmuring softly, โItโs okay.โ
Maggie found herself tearing up at the sudden warmth and reassurance. With a soft chuckle, she remarked, โArenโt we just performing? Why does it feel so authentic?โ
