Chapter 87: Being Favored and Fearless

โ€œShall we find somewhere to sit?โ€ Beth asked, assessing the woman before her. In the nightclubโ€™s dim light and from a poor angle, she hadnโ€™t gotten a good look at Maggieโ€™s appearance. But now, upon closer inspection, she couldnโ€™t deny Maggieโ€™s exquisite, radiant beauty.

Her porcelain skin was smooth and lustrous, reminiscent of the finest jade. It seemed as if she alone had captured all of heavenโ€™s favor. Her striking features, particularly her almond-shaped eyes, held a hint of aloofness and coolness. Despite her simple dress, she effortlessly overshadowed her surroundings.

Bethโ€™s heart sank; she felt less pleased. I knew it, she thought. Such rare beauty. No wonder even a man like Nathael was tempted. Despite these unsettling thoughts, Bethโ€™s face remained unchanged, displaying only a hint of unapproachable aloofness.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Maggie replied, guessing Bethโ€™s connection to Nathael. In her past life, Beth had offered two billion to make Maggie leave, along with numerous projects for the Camerons; but this time, she appeared much earlier. Beth didnโ€™t know the purpose of this meeting.

Whatever the situation, she had a knack for driving women like thisโ€”privileged, high-and-mightyโ€”to the brink of insanity.

They found a nearby hotel lobby and ordered coffee. Beth got straight to the point: โ€œWhat do you want from Nathael?โ€

Maggie sat with her legs together, angled slightly to the side, her hands clasped and hanging gracefully at her side. She smiled and looked directly at Beth. โ€œMs. Bray, what do you think I want?โ€

โ€œMoney? Power? Itโ€™s nothing more than those two things. Nathael canโ€™t offer anything else,โ€ Beth said calmly, scrutinizing Maggie.

Maggieโ€™s eyes were cold, and seeing Bethโ€™s self-assured attitude, she chuckled. โ€œDo you think you know Mr. Harris that well?โ€

โ€œI grew up with him, so naturally, I know a great deal about him. If you want money and power, thatโ€™s fine. But if youโ€™re hoping for his love or dreaming of marrying into the Harris family, thatโ€™s wishful thinking.โ€ Maggie remained composed, looking directly at Beth. โ€œBut people always need to have dreams, donโ€™t they? Ms. Bray is not Mr. Harris, so how can you be sure he wonโ€™t give me what I want?โ€

Beth sighed, feeling sheโ€™d at least made some headway. โ€œIโ€™ve seen many women like you, but in the end, they end up heartbroken and wasting their youth. Besides, I know youโ€™ve been scheming for the Camerons. How could Nathael not see through your machinations?โ€

In the next moment, Maggie smiled. โ€œSo, you have broken your heart and wasted your youth? Is this advice from someone who has been there before?โ€

Bethโ€™s face fell. They stared at each other for a long time. Beth, too, was beautiful. Though her features werenโ€™t as delicate as Vanessaโ€™s, her upbringing and knowledge gave her a unique aura and distinctive charm.

After a brief silence, Beth asked, โ€œMs. Adam, do you like Nathael?โ€

Maggie chuckled softly. โ€œWho wouldnโ€™t like someone like Mr. Harris?โ€

Beth sneered. โ€œYou are greedy. On one hand, youโ€™re scheming against him and helping the Camerons. On the other hand, youโ€™re trying to win his favor.โ€

โ€œYes, I admit that I am greedy,โ€ Maggie said casually, with a sense of entitlement and shamelessness that irritated Beth.

Standing up, Beth looked at Maggie coldly. โ€œUnfortunately, Ms. Adam, your plan is likely to fail. He overheard everything you said to the Camerons today.โ€

Maggieโ€™s heart sank. She whispered, โ€œSo it was really himโ€ฆโ€

There was no anxiety or panic. Beth couldnโ€™t help but furrow her brow, feeling she couldnโ€™t understand Maggie. โ€œMs. Adam, you should consider how to explain this to Nathael.โ€

Maggie curved her red lips into a smile. โ€œWhat should I explain? He has always known what I want.โ€

This wasnโ€™t a lie. In both lives, Nathael had been aware of her machinations. Perhaps he would be disappointed to hear those words; yet, she didnโ€™t want him to hear them. She hadnโ€™t expected things to turn out this way. She lacked power and influence. Even returning to the Adam family, gaining a foothold in the core business would take time. It was faster to leverage her current position with the Camerons, acting from within.

Bethโ€™s brow furrowed tighter. โ€œYouโ€™re fearless,โ€ she said sarcastically.

Maggie raised an eyebrow. โ€œMs. Bray, have you ever heard this? Those who are favored always have no fear.โ€

Before Beth could respond, Maggie continued, โ€œIndeed, Ms. Bray probably has never experienced this feeling.โ€

Bethโ€™s face flushed with anger, but she maintained her composure. She sneered. โ€œI want to see if Nathael still treats you the same as before.โ€ I know Nathael too well. Heโ€™s not only ruthless but also cold and indifferent. He would not allow betrayal and manipulation. Once he knew Maggieโ€™s true face, he wouldnโ€™t easily let her go, let alone treat her like before!

Maggie seemed unconcerned. With a slight smile, she said, โ€œIโ€™m also a bit curious.โ€

The conversation going nowhere, Beth gathered her things to leave. Maggie remained unchanged, picking up her coffee. This will be difficult to explain to Nathael, she thought. Oh, headache.

A few steps away, Beth stopped. She turned to look at Maggie. โ€œThe person who gave seafood to Nathael last time was you, right? Heโ€™s allergic to several types of seafood, but it seems you werenโ€™t aware.โ€

Beth gave her a deep look and left. Maggieโ€™s movements slowed; if Beth hadnโ€™t left, she would have seen her face pale, a stark contrast to her previous composure.
