Chapter 148

"Those three cars outside did you buy them?" Catherine asked.

Severin nodded. "That's right."

The old lady smiled. "But you were just released, weren't you? Where did you get so much money?"

Severin was speechless. He thought, This old woman is asking too many questions. However, he decided not to ignore her. He smiled slightly and said, "To tell you the truth, I met a savant in prison, and we became close. He gave me a lot of money; these cars are spare change."

The old lady was stunned. She clearly didn't believe him. In her opinion, the money must have come from Henry Longhorn. After all, Severin had saved Henry, and a financial reward, in addition to a villa, seemed logical.

"Well, we'll be family now! You'll become the Shanahans' son-in-law. If Diane marries you, you'll be part of the family, right?" The old lady nodded, looking again at Severin.

Behind them, George and Stanley exchanged glances but remained silent. They didn't want a recently released convict as their son-in-law, but Catherine's stance silenced them.

Severin hadn't expected such quick acceptance. Though the old lady still seemed to look down on him, she accepted him as Diane's husband. He smiled and nodded. "You're right. From now on, we're family. Diane's family is my family."

"Come, let's sit down and talk. Have a seat, everyone." The old lady gestured toward the seats and looked at Severin. "Our family needs your help with something, Severin. You won't refuse us as our new son-in-law, will you?"

Severin immediately understood the change in her attitude. She's thinking about the Liberty City project! This explained her sudden acceptance.

After a moment, he said, "You're right, Grandma. I'm a Shanahan now, and I should help the family."

Catherine was overjoyed.

To everyone's surprise, Severin continued, "But getting the Liberty City project won't be easy. Henry has repaid me, and I'd feel bad troubling him again."

Stanley immediately interjected, "What's there to feel bad about? You saved his life, and we're only asking for help with the project. Is it that difficult? He might think you're pushy, but couldn't you lower your ego for our sake? Besides, you're a Shanahan now. It's only right you help us!"

Severin looked at Stanley, then smiled faintly. "I can try, but I hope you'll agree to a small request of mine if I succeed."

The old lady's expression turned cold. "Are you viewing this as some sort of deal?"
