Chapter 15

Stunned, the four bodyguards turned and stared at the woman.

Severin frowned, slowly turned, and exclaimed in astonishment, "You again!" He was dumbfounded; she was the woman who'd called him a jerk earlier that day in the dilapidated neighborhood. She was still in her food delivery uniform, having squeezed past the Loughs' bodyguards.

She panted heavily, clearly exhausted from her hurried arrival.

"Who is this woman? Another nutcase? Didn't she call Severin 'my man'?"

Some guests whispered amongst themselves.

Lucy stepped forward. "Who are you? Did you mistake him for someone else? Severin doesn't have a wife. Don't interfere in the Loughs' affairs!"

Diane looked at Lucy in surprise. "Whether you like it or not, they've been together for three years. If you can be attached to a pet, surely you still have some feelings for him? Are you really going to let him be killed? Why are you so cold-blooded?"

"Cold-blooded?" Lucy laughed angrily. "You've got it all wrong! This man came to ruin my wedding and hurt my fiancé, and I'm cold-blooded? He'd only have himself to blame if he were killed!"

Severin chuckled wryly. As former lovers, he'd shown Lucy a final act of dignity by refraining from ruining her wedding. However, Easton's relentless provocation left him no choice but to fight back. Worse, Lucy was ignoring their past and eager to watch him die.

"Why are you still standing there? Kill him!" Easton gritted his teeth, urging the bodyguards.

The woman looked like an ordinary food delivery person; there was nothing to fear.

Just as the bodyguards were about to attack, Trevor stepped forward, his expression solemn. He cupped his hands respectfully. "Is he truly your man, Miss Diane?"

A gasp arose from the crowd. "Diane Shanahan! The Shanahans, one of our city's third-tier upper-class families!"

"The Shanahans? That explains Trevor's politeness. The Loughs can't afford to offend them!"

"Miss Diane? The stunningly beautiful, icy company president? Men from Brookbourn's elite have sought her hand! Some say she's the most beautiful woman in Brookbourn!" A businessman exclaimed. Another frowned. "But why is she in a food delivery uniform?"

"She got pregnant five years ago, and the Shanahans didn't approve. She refused to name the father and kept the child despite pressure to abort. She was disowned and now delivers food to make ends meet."

The businessman lamented, "She could have married into wealth, but she chose to keep the baby."

Diane, her eyes red with unshed tears, looked at Trevor. "Yes, Mister Trevor. He is my man. It was his child."

"My child?!" Severin exclaimed, shocked.
