Chapter 37

“You son of a bitch! I can’t believe you accepted that key! We should return it!” Diane’s brows furrowed as she walked down the street with Severin and Selene.

“Return it? Wouldn’t that be rude after I’ve already accepted it?” Severin frowned. “Don’t get so worked up. It’s just a house! He gave it to us, so we’ll use it. We need a place to live, and my parents’ house is falling apart!”

“‘Just a house’?! Do you know how valuable that house is? It’s a villa in Dragon Lake Vista! Even my grandmother couldn’t afford one—they’re all sold out. The Shanahans couldn’t buy one before, and even when they could, none were available! Living there isn’t just about being rich; it’s a status symbol!” Diane explained. “The Longhorns bought the biggest, best-located one! It’s worth at least eleven million!”

“Really? That old man is quite the big spender!” Severin was awestruck.

“You weren’t planning on keeping it, were you?” Diane was astonished. The villa was far too valuable. [Remove the promotional text about finding novels online.]

“Think about it: returning a gift is like slapping Henry in the face. Besides, I didn’t know it was that expensive. I thought it was only worth about a million!” Severin said wryly. “It’s okay. If the Longhorns need my help, I’ll help them. I saved his life—an old man’s life! That’s gotta be worth more than this house, right?”

“Fine!” Diane nodded. Returning the keys would create a bad impression. She blamed Severin for accepting the gift in the first place, but she doubted he could actually help the Longhorn family.

After a moment, Diane said, “You’re too impulsive. You offended both the Loughs and Blade today. They only let you off because of Henry. I worry they’ll seek revenge! Henry repaid you with the house and a meal. We can’t always rely on him, right?”

Severin smiled. “Don’t worry, honey. Neither the Loughs nor Blade are a match for me. I’ll give them a good beating if they touch you or Selene!”

Diane rolled her eyes. “And your big talk! That attitude will get you into trouble sooner or later!”

A moment later, Diane said, “Don’t call me ‘honey.’ It sounds weird!”

Severin looked at Selene, who was prancing happily. “Don’t say that in front of Selene. Shouldn’t we be more affectionate? You’re my daughter’s mother, my one and only honey. I’ll marry you, even if it’s the last thing I do!”

After walking for a while, they arrived at a mall.
