Charmaine was appalled and displeased by Severin's tone. She forced a smile, saying, "Am I not allowed to ask what medicine you gave my grandfather? I've never seen a cerebral hemorrhage treated without surgery. Isn't it miraculous that you cured it with pressure and a single pill?"
After questioning Severin, Charmaine demanded, "Are you a doctor? Show me your medical license!"
Severin shook his head. "I don't have one, and frankly, I don't think it matters. I saved your grandfather, didn't I? Or are you more eager to see him dead?" He paused. "I can't be bothered to explain myself. Your knowledge of the world is remarkably shallow if this is your first time seeing something like this!"
"You" Charmaine gritted her teeth. "Do you have any idea who you're talking to? I don't even know you!"
Severin smiled disdainfully. "I'm talking to an unreasonable woman!"
Charmaine's anger flared. "I'll have my bodyguards teach you a lesson! You're very rude! Why can't I ask what you gave my grandfather?!"
"It's a life-saving miracle pill. Is that clear?" Severin retorted. He added, "Knowing your attitude after I saved your grandfather, perhaps I should have just waited for an ambulance. Your grandfather might have died!"
Henry finally spoke. "Charmaine, whether he has a license or not, and the medicine's name, are irrelevant. He saved me. Please be nicer."
Charmaine, angry but subdued, could only stomp her feet.
"What's your name, my friend?" Henry asked Severin with a smile.
"Severin Feuillet," Severin replied indifferently. "Your hemorrhage was likely caused by getting too excited playing chess. You have high blood pressure; go to the hospital for a checkup and get medication, or you might suffer another one."
"Thank you," Henry said, cupping his hands. "You saved my life. Let me know if you ever need my help. Charmaine, prepare one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for our friend—payment for his treatment."
"I don't want money," Severin chuckled, glancing at Charmaine. "I'm content if a certain someone doesn't treat me like a charlatan."
Surprise flashed across Charmaine's face. He was poorly dressed yet unfazed by $150,000. Perhaps she misjudged him.
"Can't you just drop it already!" Charmaine retorted petulantly.
Henry glared at her. Smiling at Severin, he said, "I have a suggestion. Since you don't want the money, how about lunch? Please do me the honor of accepting."
Severin, seeing the old man's humility, nodded. "Sure."
"How about the Richemont Hotel at noon? Tell the front desk you're a guest of Henry Longhorn," Henry said. "See you later!"
Severin left.
"Grandpa, are you sure he is who he says he is? Do all savants dress so shabbily?" Charmaine doubted.
"I wouldn't have thought so if he took the money. I'd have assumed he was someone with medical knowledge. But ignoring the moneythere's more to him. Besides, would you risk what he said? What if I'd died in the ambulance? He has incredible ability. I felt True Energy when he touched my pressure points."
Charmaine gasped at the mention of "True Energy."
Henry's chess opponent was shocked, understanding Henry's politeness earlier. "Let's go, Grandpa. I'll take you to the hospital."
They arrived at Brookbourn's best private hospital. Charmaine asked Dr. Russell Barker, "Doctor Barker, is my grandfather's brain alright?"
Russell examined the scan skeptically. "This is unusual. The blood vessels ruptured, but the bleeding was minimal, so brain damage is minimal. But the vessels are intact!"
"What does that mean?" Charmaine asked.
"Miraculous healing after a hemorrhage! I have no explanation. A true miracle!" Russell exclaimed. Charmaine and Henry exchanged glances, remembering Severin's medicine. (Remove the plug for FindNovel.net)
"Does he need hospitalization?" Charmaine asked.
"No. The blood didn't affect his cranial nerves. His blood pressure is high, so I'll prescribe medication. A review in a month should suffice."
"Would he have reached the hospital in time from Brookhill Park?" Charmaine asked.
"No. Even if he was still breathing, he might be comatose, or suffer further emergencies in the ambulance," Russell replied.
Charmaine broke into a cold sweat. "It seems we met a savant!"
After leaving the hospital, Henry said, "Don't offend Severin, Charmaine. We owe him a huge debt, far beyond a meal. He has superb medical skillshe's almost certainly a reclusive savant!"
