Chapter 14: Merciless

Emmanuel and Sheldon arrived at the project site, a former abandoned factory. Terence Group had purchased the land to build a large-scale, strategic warehouse, commissioning Cloud Construction for the project. However, halfway through construction, a group of thugs had taken over, claiming the previous factory owner owed them back wages.

"What the f*ck? Are you guys a bunch of dimwits? Are you here to chase us away again?"

"The previous owner hasn't paid us, so we're not leaving!"

"Besides, Mr. Webber isn't negotiating with you. No matter how many times you try, you'll achieve nothing!"

"Are you not afraid of death? I dare you to call the police!"

The thugs, fearless in the face of Emmanuel and Sheldon, began swearing at them. Cloud Construction would have dealt with the thugs long ago if they could have. Sheldon cast a helpless glance at Emmanuel, already contemplating flight. However, Emmanuel, determined to bring Mackenzie to meet his mother, refused to back down.

"Get your boss to meet me now! Otherwise, I won't show any of you mercy!" Emmanuel threatened, a determined look in his eyes. I know how to deal with these thugs. If I go soft on them, they'll keep pushing me around. The only way to deal with them is the hard way!

The thugs immediately stopped swearing; some were so flabbergasted they dropped their cigarettes. Wow! This man is a badass! They had been there a long time and had never seen anyone so bold.

There are only two of us here. How dare he talk like that? Sheldon shivered in fear. Is Emmanuel a fool? Is he going to fight these thugs for money?

Milani, in a Cloud Construction MPV, arrived at the factory entrance. She had come specifically to watch Emmanuel die, unable to contain her anger. Wearing stylish sunglasses, she smiled, waiting for the show to begin.

Emmanuel disregarded her presence but was glad she'd arrived. "Milani! Bring the legal documents! Show these guys the documents so they'll scram!"

What the fck? Milani was stunned. Is he stupid? Does he think the thugs care about the law? If they did, this matter would have been settled long ago!*

"What are you waiting for, Ms. Zimmerman? You're here to bring us the legal documents, right?" Sheldon, oblivious to Milani's intentions, approached her.

The thugs leered at Milani. Seeing this, she trembled. If the thugs take matters into their own hands, I'll surely get dragged into this mess. What if they come after me because of my looks? I won't be able to escape their clutches!

"What are you talking about, Sheldon? What documents? I don't know what nonsense you're talking about!" Milani desperately tried to distance herself, wanting to flee. I came to watch Emmanuel get into trouble, but I'm about to end up in hot water myself!

Before she could drive away, Emmanuel reached into the car and retrieved the legal documents. He flashed a half-smile. "Ms. Zimmerman, are you already forgetting things? Aren't these the legal documents?"

Milani's face paled, a grim expression replacing her smile.

In a fit of rage, she gritted her teeth. "Are you crazy, Emmanuel? You might want to die, but I don't! What makes you think you can get rid of these thugs? If you can do it, I'll give you a kiss in return!"

To her surprise, Emmanuel replied nonchalantly, "I'm sorry, but I'm really not interested in you."

Enraged, Milani could only glare. Emmanuel ignored her, grabbed the documents, and walked toward the entrance. He found himself surrounded by a dozen burly men.

"Emmanuel, we should leave now." Sheldon, terrified, wanted to finish the job but not at the risk of his life.

Milani quickly returned to her car, rolling down the window to taunt Emmanuel. "Loser, you've lost your mind, haven't you? Are you risking your life to make money because you've failed to find yourself a wife?"

Emmanuel ignored her. I can't find a wife? I'm fighting for my future wife now!

Without fear, Emmanuel opened the documents. "This is the real estate document from Terence Group and the construction permit from Cloud Construction. This land has long been owned by Terence Group and has nothing to do with your previous boss. Please leave immediately!"

The thugs froze, then burst into laughter.

"Haha! This fellow is a simpleton! Why is he telling us that?"

"Cut the crap! Let's finish him!"

The thugs clenched their fists, preparing to fight. Sheldon's knees went weak. I'm just an office worker. I've never even been in a fight! Milani locked her car doors, ready to flee. The principle of self-preservation over loyalty perfectly described the situation. All she wanted was to survive.

Emmanuel, however, was unafraid. A seven-year army veteran used to risking his life daily, he saw this as a joke.

"Die, punk!" A man with an afro swung a chain at Emmanuel. This man was one of Samuel's fighters, often involved in violent confrontations. Beating up anyone who tried to evict them would please Samuel. He had injured many people before, some requiring emergency hospital treatment. This is how they intimidated Cloud Construction employees, preventing anyone from calling the police. Gradually, they had gained control of the land.

As everyone waited for the chain to hit Emmanuel, he swiftly dodged it and threw a punch.

Bang!

The man with an afro flew back, knocking down six other thugs. Blood splattered everywhere. Oh, sht! The thugs’ smiles froze. Milani was stunned. This man can fight!*

Before the man with the afro could stand, Emmanuel approached him, his expression icy, and stomped on his leg.

Crack!

"Ah!" The man screamed, his face turning purple as he rolled on the ground.

Everyone broke into a cold sweat. That's so ruthless! He broke the man's leg without batting an eyelid! How is he so cold-blooded? Who is he?
