Chapter 30
Milani grinned gleefully, a wide smile splitting her face, as she watched everyone staring at Emmanuel. She was determined to humiliate him in revenge for the incident at the project site.
To her surprise, however, Emmanuel retorted with a smile, “Shouldn’t you be getting yourself checked out at the gynecology department? If someone like you is allowed here, then I see no problem with me being here.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd. The men, in particular, let their imaginations run wild, speculating about Milani's supposed examination by Emmanuel.
Milani's face burned crimson. She shouted, “Don’t listen to him! I have never been examined by him! He’s just making things up!”
Seeing Milani's attempt to humiliate Emmanuel, Roselynn decided to retaliate. “Heh… He wouldn’t be interested in you even if you were standing stark naked in front of him! Now, I recall a certain someone showing up at our house asking to marry this gynecologist!”
“N-Nonsense! I would never want to marry a loser like him!” Milani protested, but her desperation only made her appear more guilty.
Most onlookers assumed she was merely mocking Emmanuel out of jealousy. Some even believed Roselynn was Emmanuel's girlfriend. Was this a battle between his ex and his current girlfriend?
Unwilling to waste any more time and energy on Milani, Emmanuel and Roselynn resumed eating and discreetly scanning the banquet for eligible, handsome men. To add insult to injury, Roselynn flashed Milani a smug grin as they walked past. You think you can win against me? Ha! You’re a hundred years too early!
Emmanuel and Roselynn were enjoying themselves when a man called out from behind, “Long time no see, Roselynn!”
Roselynn turned, her face falling when she saw who it was. Emmanuel, too, registered displeasure at the sight of the man.
It was Chase Parker. Tall, handsome, and from a wealthy family. Roselynn had had a crush on him in university, and they had dated briefly. However, she had caught him cheating and immediately ended the relationship. She hadn't dated anyone since, a fact likely stemming from the trauma of that experience.
Instead of feeling awkward after being ignored by Roselynn, Chase shamelessly asked Emmanuel to leave them alone. A poor guy like him doesn’t deserve to be with Roselynn!
Emmanuel almost burst out laughing when he realized Chase didn’t know they were siblings. Assuming Chase was courting Roselynn, Emmanuel decided to play along. “And why should I let you have this beautiful woman? She’s the most perfect woman I’ve ever met!” He wanted to make Chase regret cheating on someone as lovely as Roselynn.
Chase chuckled disdainfully, placing a wad of cash in front of Emmanuel. “Judging by your outfit, I’d say you’re not a guest at this banquet. Here’s a tip for you. Now, buzz off before you lose your job!” Chase, mistaking Emmanuel's simple attire for that of a waiter, assumed he was a servant.
Amused, Emmanuel was about to respond when Milani exclaimed from a distance, “Look! That’s Mr. Doyle!”
Even Roselynn glanced in that direction. What’s going on? Did some big-shot CEO show up or something?
Moments later, a burly man in a military uniform approached, his head held high, followed by two other men from wealthy families. That man was Keegan Doyle. Despite his mature appearance, he was only twenty-seven, a junior lieutenant at Yeringham's military base. His father was a lieutenant colonel, and his mother a high-ranking government official in Yeringham. Keegan was a prominent scion, and instantly became a target for sycophants.
Roselynn, however, showed no interest in tanned, muscular men, and quickly diverted her attention.
Everyone anticipated a spectacle as Keegan approached Roselynn. Milani, noticing Keegan's interest in Roselynn, felt a flicker of disappointment, quickly replaced by an expectant smile. Mr. Doyle doesn’t know Emmanuel is Roselynn’s brother, and she doesn’t seem to be interested in muscular men like him either. Oh, this is going to be interesting!
Emmanuel and Roselynn were engrossed in conversation, oblivious to Keegan's approach. Chase looked awkward, his attempts at showing off completely ignored by Emmanuel.
Just as things seemed to reach their nadir, Keegan strode over, looming over them like a mountain.
“Is that really you, Rosie? It’s so good to see you here! We have a lot of catching up to do!” Keegan exclaimed, his gaze fixed intensely on Roselynn, ignoring both Emmanuel and Chase.
“Huh? You’re Keegan? As in, my junior from university?” Roselynn paused, recalling an incident from her university days. In her final year, a man three years younger had attempted to court her. Disliking muscular men, she'd rejected him without learning his name. It was only when Keegan called her "Rosie" that she recognized him.
“Haha! Technically, I wasn’t your junior. I was actually an instructor at the university!” Keegan was thrilled she remembered him. Not only is Roselynn curvy in all the right places, but she also has a charming personality and exudes a feminine charm!
Keegan then frowned and shouted at Emmanuel and Chase, “Get lost, you two! I want to have a private conversation with Rosie!”
Although Chase felt insulted, he dared not argue with Keegan, given his powerful background. Keegan then took Roselynn's hand and roughly shoved Emmanuel aside, completely disregarding basic manners.
Noticing Roselynn’s helpless expression, Emmanuel shoved Keegan back, sneering, “I found her first, so why should I let you have her?” Chase may not have the guts to offend this guy, but I do!
A collective gasp rippled through the onlookers.
“Who the f*ck are you?” Keegan's veneer of elegance shattered, revealing his vulgar nature. While able to maintain a polite façade with Roselynn, his true colors emerged when confronted by another man.
