Chapter 35

Those who had laughed at Emmanuel’s misfortune earlier felt their cheeks burn with embarrassment. None of them knew that the man who looked shabby was, in fact, part of the Quillen family. When had the Quillen family acquired such a man? Milani's mind went blank, while Chase dared not speak. Even Claudette couldn't hide her shock. Had Emmanuel joined the Quillen family? Did he work for them? Or had he become a live-in son-in-law?

Despite being the center of attention, Emmanuel was confused because he didn't know who Beatrix was.

Adam hastily explained, "Ms. Beatrix, I am deeply sorry for my error. I had absolutely no idea that this man was your personal guest, nor did I know he was a member of the esteemed Quillen family!"

"If you don't know anything, why didn't you check first? Isn't it rude to kick someone out after allowing him entry?"

Beatrix's retort silenced Adam. He had initially intended to investigate further, but after overhearing people talking, particularly Milani's comment, he made an impulsive decision without investigating Emmanuel's identity.

"This is my fault," Adam muttered. "If Ms. Beatrix tells Old Mr. Quillen about this, I'll be fired tonight."

"I'm really sorry, sir," Adam continued, addressing Emmanuel. "The inconsiderate treatment you received was due to my oversight. Please accept my apology!"

With that, Adam bowed politely, seeking Emmanuel's forgiveness. The sight caused everyone's jaws to drop in disbelief. Emmanuel, a seemingly useless man, was being treated with such deference.

Milani bit her lip, refusing to believe what she had witnessed. Many shared her sentiment. Emmanuel, initially met with scornful stares, now received glances of surprise and admiration. Some even sneaked out of the hall, fearing Emmanuel would settle scores with them, with Beatrix's help.

Emmanuel gazed at Beatrix in surprise, still unsure of her identity. Beatrix simply winked at him smugly. Before Emmanuel could speak, Adam kept his head bowed. An awkward silence filled the air.

"It's fine," Emmanuel said. "You were just doing your job." He didn't blame Adam for his earlier treatment. However, he added, "This young man, Keegan, was arrogant and insolent, and I don't think he should stay here lest he bullies someone else. Do you understand?"

Hearing this, Keegan tactfully raised his hand and left before Adam could intervene. No matter his pride, he wasn't foolish enough to challenge the Quillen family during their celebration.

Chills ran down everyone's spines as they feared for their own fates, having not sided with Emmanuel earlier. Any criticism from him could result in their removal from the party. However, Emmanuel wasn't petty; he wouldn't use Beatrix's reputation to offend the guests.

Having dealt with the situation, Beatrix turned to Claudette and Roselynn. "Ladies, I need to speak with him privately. Will you excuse us?"

Roselynn nodded eagerly; Beatrix had saved them from a very awkward situation at the Quillen family party. Despite her reluctance, Claudette managed a polite, nonchalant smile. "If he's part of the Quillen family, why would you need our approval to take him away?"

"Thanks!" Beatrix replied, tugging the socially inept Emmanuel away.

Emmanuel's brows furrowed. Who is this young lady? Why didn't she seek my approval before dragging me away?
