Chapter 45

“Haha! Do you think pretending to be dead will work on me?” Joel swaggered out of the room and saw Alessandra lying on the ground in pain. He showed no sympathy, remarking sarcastically, “It’s not going to work, but I might pray for you if you were to die here!”

The medical staff at the scene thought Joel was inhumane and arrogant.

A VIP ward, reserved for distinguished customers, was located at the end of the corridor. Since the Quillen family was one of the hospital investors, Mackenzie was staying in that VIP ward.

Hearing the commotion, Lexi rushed out to check things out, then hurried back, exclaiming, “Things don’t look good, Ms. Quillen! Emmanuel’s mom is lying on the floor in the corridor.”

Mackenzie narrowed her eyes. After considering the situation, she endured her stomach flu pain and went to the entrance to investigate.

Emmanuel was clenching his fists, but he wasn't attacking Joel. He was trying to ease Alessandra's suffering.

“He’s a patient man! If it were me, I would’ve started beating that bald man up!” Lexi grumbled.

Mackenzie smiled, offering a different perspective. “Have you not heard the saying, Lexi?”

“Huh? What is it, Ms. Quillen?” Lexi asked, slightly bewildered.

“To lose patience is to lose the battle,” Mackenzie replied.

Lexi shuddered, seemingly understanding. Is Ms. Quillen admiring Emmanuel’s patience?

Indeed, if Emmanuel had beaten Joel, he would have only worsened the situation; Alessandra could even have been kicked out of the hospital. By treating Alessandra, Emmanuel not only comforted her but also avoided unnecessary conflict. His priority was securing her a room.

“Haha! You can play dead all you want! I’m never letting you have this room!” Joel provoked Emmanuel and Alessandra again before returning to his ward, crossing his legs, and lying down leisurely.

Many medical staff murmured among themselves. Emmanuel, however, remained silent and moved Alessandra away.

Since no wards were available in the Internal Medicine department, Emmanuel took Alessandra to the Gynecology department. After settling her, he looked forward to confronting Joel.

The corridor commotion subsided, and someone opened Joel’s ward door.

“Who the f*ck is it this time?” Joel grumbled. “Why is staying in this hospital such a hassle?”

Seeing two beautiful women enter, he got out of bed and smiled respectfully. “Hi, Ms. Quillen. What brought you here?”

Mackenzie wasn't in the mood for conversation. “I want this ward. May I have it?”

“What?” Joel froze. “What’s with this ward? Why are so many people after it?”

“Quick! Give me an answer!” Mackenzie demanded sharply.

Joel shivered at her gaze. How can I say no to her?

Knowing his company was collaborating with the Terence Group, he realized he was at Mackenzie’s mercy.

“Haha! It’s an honor to be staying in the same ward as you, Ms. Quillen!” Joel said.

“Cut the crap! Buzz off!” Mackenzie roared.

Joel, arrogant moments before, didn’t even change clothes before fleeing the room. He couldn’t afford to antagonize Mackenzie.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel and Alessandra were at the front desk checking for available wards. He received a WhatsApp text from a nurse: a room in Internal Medicine was ready.

Puzzled, Emmanuel thanked the nurse and took Alessandra back.

They were surprised to find it was the same room as before, but Joel was gone.

“What happened? Who helped me?” Emmanuel asked, curious. Someone must have helped; otherwise, this wouldn't have happened. That bald man said there was no way he would give up the ward. Yet, everything changed suddenly.

The nurse shook her head, indicating she knew nothing.
