Chapter 5

Marriage isn't a child's game. Now that we're married, we need to decide how to proceed with… you know… marital intimacy.

"Heh… As expected of a man!" Mackenzie rolled her eyes.

I knew it! Men and women do think differently. I care about our life as a married couple, but he's only concerned about sex!

"Unless you win my heart, you can forget about touching me!"

"Very well, then!" Emmanuel liked her directness. He never believed he could win the heart of someone like her. While her beauty was captivating, it didn't automatically translate to sexual attraction. In fact, he doubted his ability to be aroused by women.

One of his main reasons for hesitance towards marriage was his fear of not being able to satisfy his wife sexually. Therefore, Mackenzie's refusal was a relief.

Mackenzie, however, was displeased. What the… This bastard! He's not faking it! I know most men wouldn't dare express interest because of my cold personality, but that doesn't mean they don't lust after me! I'm beautiful, so why doesn't he want sex with me? Is it because he's a gynecologist? I hate this!

They parted ways after clarifying their positions.

Emmanuel found Milani at his doorstep with a basket of fruit. She looked completely different with a sweet smile.

Disgusted by her apparent pretense, Emmanuel told her the truth immediately.

"What? You rejected all the gifts?" Milani was shocked to hear he'd returned the ten-million-dollar gifts. Oh, my goodness! Why would he do something so stupid? Does he think he's superior for turning them down? Ugh! Now I see why he's unsuccessful! No one would marry a man like him; they'd be poor!

Alessandra, hearing the commotion, emerged. "Ah, Milani, you're here! Come in!" She welcomed Milani excitedly—it was the first time a woman had visited her son. Alessandra, desperate to marry Emmanuel off, didn't care about Milani's family.

To her surprise, Milani's attitude changed. "Sorry, but I'm busy! Forget about marrying your son! He's not worthy of being my footstool, let alone my husband! He'll never find a wife! Goodbye!" Milani stormed off.

Honestly, I don't know why my mother wanted me to visit him! Such a waste of time!

Alessandra was speechless. What just happened? Did she bring the fruit just to insult my son? What is wrong with her?

Emmanuel knew Milani's reaction stemmed from the ten million he'd refused. He had no interest in a gold-digger.

"My goodness! What a crazy woman!" Roselynn exclaimed, witnessing Milani's departure. Turning to Emmanuel, she tried to comfort him, "Stay away from women like her, Manny! Don't take it to heart!"

Surprisingly, he seemed unfazed. "Mom, Roselynn, I'm already married, so you don't have to worry."

Alessandra and Roselynn screamed, "What?" Roselynn's shriek nearly shattered the glassware.

"Did you say you're married? Who are you married to? You're not joking, are you? You never had a girlfriend!"

Instead of arguing, Emmanuel produced his marriage certificate. The truth was undeniable, leaving them wide-eyed. Although the woman in the photo was gorgeous, they worried about her personality.

"She looks difficult!" "Are you sure this isn't a scam?"

Understanding their concerns, Emmanuel lied, "Don't worry. She's a woman I met while serving in the Northern Region. She's strong, a perfectionist, and image-conscious, so she didn't want our relationship publicized."

"Ah, so that's it…" That explains why he never had a girlfriend!

"I'm sorry for keeping it a secret. I wanted to protect her career. You no longer need to worry. Mackenzie and I will be happy," Emmanuel reassured them, but they remained concerned. Roselynn was particularly suspicious. If he'd had a girlfriend, why wait to tell them? Why the eighteen matchmaking sessions? She decided to let it go to avoid upsetting his mother.

"What does she do? Why didn't she come home?" Alessandra asked.

Emmanuel was prepared. "Mackenzie is a high-level executive in a large company. That's why she couldn't come home."

"What? Where will she stay?"

"She bought her own house. I'll be moving in with her."

Alessandra's eyes teared up. Roselynn, though reluctant to see Emmanuel leave, comforted her. "Manny's a grown man, Mom. He'll move out eventually. You want grandchildren, right? That'll be hard if he stays with us!"

Alessandra understood; no woman wants to live with in-laws, especially regarding intimacy. Still, she cried.

"I won't object if you love her. I just want to meet her and arrange a meeting between our families."

These simple requests were incredibly difficult for Emmanuel to fulfill. There's no way Mackenzie would visit! She's no ordinary woman. And meeting her parents? Impossible. She only married him to please her grandfather. What do I do?
