Chapter 102
Debraโs move to buy their place in line with money further darkened Theodoreโs expression. Debra was truly impatient, eager to finalize the divorce between him and Rebecca. With the financial boost, Rebecca and Theodore jumped straight to the front of the queue, ready to proceed with their appointment.
The staff behind the counter wore neutral expressions. After routine inquiries, they produced the necessary documents for signing. Rebecca and Theodore both signed the papers, effectively completing their divorce appointment. After the mandatory one-month cooling-off period, they could return to collect their divorce license.
Debraโs face was beaming with a radiant smile. Seeing Debra so happy made Rebecca feel quite happy too, but occasionally, when she glanced at Theodore out of the corner of her eye, she couldnโt help but feel a bit uncomfortable. She knew why Theodore was in such a hurry to sign the divorce agreementโJenny. This man, in the end, was just like this. He wasnโt worth her spending the rest of her life with him.
Debra also glanced at Theodore, and she was increasingly disapproving of him. If Rebecca ever met her prince charming who was willing to cherish her for a lifetime, Debra would surely grow fonder of him over time. As Debra thought, she held Rebeccaโs hand happily. โLetโs go home.โ Regardless, they had achieved todayโs goal.
The Carter familyโs car was waiting outside the courthouse, ready for Rebecca and her mother. They climbed in and settled into their seats as the vehicle swiftly pulled away from the curb. Theodore watched silently as the car gradually disappeared from view. His hand, absentmindedly slipping into his pocket, clenched slightly as he contemplated the turn of events.
In Theodoreโs mind, there was no possibility that Charlie would marry Rebecca. He was convinced that once he resolved the issues surrounding the Edwards family, he could eventually win Rebecca back. He believed that in time, she would come to realize who truly deserved her love and trust. With that in mind, he got into his car and ordered his driver to leave.
Meanwhile, inside the Carter familyโs car, Debra was beaming with joy. Unable to contain her excitement, she eagerly pulled out her phone and shared the news in their family group chat.
Debra: [I have some good news!] Debra: [Theodore signed the divorce agreement!] 08:51 Mon, Jul 22
Debra: [I just accompanied Becky and Theodore to the Courthouse to arrange the divorce, and all procedures were successfully completed.]
As soon as the good news was sent out, the family immediately replied.
Patrick: [Good job!] Charlie: Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations! Wishing Becky the best in getting your divorce license sooner!! Bryce: [Great!] Adrian: [Congratulations, Becky!]
Rebecca also glanced at her phone, observing the flurry of messages in the group chat. Even through the screen, she could feel the genuine happiness and support from her family. Rebecca turned to her mother, and their eyes met in shared radiant smiles. In that moment, Rebeccaโs heart lightened considerably, and a smile spread across her face.
โThank you, Mom,โ Rebecca said sincerely.
Debra looked at her, feeling an unexpected pang of sadness. Smiling, she tucked a stray strand of hair behind Rebeccaโs ear and sighed. โBecky, I should be the one apologizing to you. If I had been more vigilant back then, that scoundrel wouldnโt have taken advantage of you, and you wouldnโt have suffered for so many years.โ
As Debra spoke, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She didnโt want to cry, quickly turning away from Rebecca to dab at her eyes with a tissue. Rebecca reached out immediately and hugged Debra tightly.
โItโs okay, Mom. Itโs not your fault. Weโre finally all together as a family,โ Rebecca comforted her gently.
They arrived home quickly, but Rebecca hadnโt expected the warm welcome waiting for her. Patrick, Bryce, Charlie, and even Paul were there, each holding a bouquet of flowers for her. Each of them approached Rebecca with their flowers in hand.
โBecky, congratulations! Youโre finally getting divorced,โ Patrick said first, handing Rebecca his bouquet with a smile and heartfelt wishes.
โCongratulations, Becky. Wishing you freedom and a brighter future ahead!โ Adrian added, offering his bouquet with a smile.
โBecky, I wish you a better and happier life ahead,โ Bryce said sincerely as he handed over his flowers.
Charlie bounded forward next, presenting Rebecca with an enormous bouquet, complete with confetti poppers set off by an assistant nearby!
โBecky, congratulations! I wish you and the two little ones all the happiness and joy in the world. Let that jerk rot in regrets for his actions!โ Charlie shouted happily.
Rebecca found herself overwhelmed with flowers in her arms, and Debra quickly stepped in to help carry the bouquets she had received earlier. With a bit of space now, Rebecca finally had a hand free to accept Charlieโs enormous bouquet. It was truly massive and incredibly beautiful, filling her with joy.
Lastly, Paul approached, offering his flowers to Rebecca with gentle warmth. โBecky, I wish you all the best in the future,โ he said tenderly. With another free hand, Rebecca accepted Paulโs flowers, then turned to express her heartfelt thanks.
โThank you, Paul, thank you, Dad, thank you, Adrian, thank you, Bryce, and thank you, Charlie. Thank you all for your care and blessings. Weโll all be better from now on.โ
โAnd thereโs not just flowers; thereโs cake too! Th-da! Look in the dining room, Becky. Weโve got a huge cake ready for you to wish you all the happiness in the world!โ
Charlie playfully dragged Rebecca into the dining room, bursting with excitement to show her the enormous and beautifully decorated cake inside. The entire room was adorned so splendidly that anyone unaware might think it was someoneโs birthday, making the atmosphere exceptionally festive. โThank you, I love it,โ Rebecca exclaimed joyfully.
Debra walked over, gently embracing Rebecca and planting a soft kiss on her forehead. Not only did Rebecca love the setting, but Lily and Kev were clearly delighted by the festive ambiance as well, especially the balloons scattered throughout the space. Rebecca smiled as she picked up two balloons, handing one to Lily and the other to Kev to play with.
The rest of the time, the whole family enjoyed themselves immensely, devouring an entire birthday cake together.
The next day, a helicopter arrived to whisk them away as they packed up to return to their hometown for the Christmas celebration. This wasnโt Lily and Kevโs first helicopter ride back home, but last time, they were just newborns and not yet sensitive to the outside world. Now, at over eight months old, the babies had grown significantly and were at an age full of curiosity about everything.
Lily and Kev sat in their specially designed baby seats, eagerly looking around, touching everything they saw and peering outside the window curiously. Whatever caught their eye, their tiny hands would reach out instinctively to touch it. Their little feet kicked playfully under the baby seats, which was an utterly adorable sight to behold.
