Chapter 140
Karenโs nails splintered under the pressure of her rage. โIf Iโd known,โ she snarled, โI wouldโve dumped that viper in some forgotten mountain village! The Carters would never have found her, and she wouldnโt be swanning around like royalty. Now Janie and I are the laughingstock!โ
At Edwards Villa, Michaelโs phone buzzed. He verified the Carter familyโs statement on Twitter. A triumphant grin spread across his face. โInheritance rights for those kids,โ he chuckled, โmeans a windfall for the Edwards family.โ He immediately called Theodore. โTheyโre giving the kids the inheritance! We need to reconcile with Rebecca. Custody will secure the money for us!โ
Theodore, already aware of the announcement, was stunned. โWhy are the Carters giving their daughter equal rights?โ he wondered aloud. While Rebecca celebrated, Theodoreโs gaze fell on Gifford. Oscar and Tiffany still eyed their inheritance. Michael, seemingly distant from the business, held a crucial stake in Edwards Group. As long as Michael held those shares, Theodore couldn't rest. A slow smile spread across Theodoreโs lips. โThose shares will be mine.โ He texted Rebecca his congratulations.
In Alagua City, Staceyโs phone pinged. An unknown number: [Rebecca, Congratulations on rejoining the Carter family with the children. Wishing you all happiness โ Theodore.] Disgust flooded her. She deleted the message and blocked the number. Changing her number seemed easy, but keeping it from Theodore? Impossible. She pocketed her phone and rejoined the festivities.
The banquet ended swiftly. The next day, Stacey and her children returned to the Aotori film set. Their stay was short โ the crew was moving to outdoor locations. Debra declared it a holiday for the nanny and children.
At their new accommodation, a young man bumped into Stacey. She reacted instinctively, her combat training kicking in, landing gracefully beside him.
โIโm sorry! Are you alright?โ he asked, offering his hand.
Stacey brushed it off. โIโm fine.โ
โIโm Russel Hampton,โ he said, a warm smile replacing his concern. โDinner, perhaps, to apologize?โ
โNo, thanks,โ Stacey said flatly.
Russel persisted. โMaybe just exchange numbers? A medical check-up is wise after a fall. Iโll take responsibility.โ
โYou did that on purpose,โ Stacey accused, her eyes narrowed.
Russel stared, speechless. Debra rushed back. Stacey hurried to her side.
Inside their room, Debra asked, โWho was that?โ
โNo idea, but it felt deliberate,โ Stacey said, suspicion lacing her voice.
A knock. Russel stood there, grinning. โI did bump into you on purpose. I need a favor.โ
โWhat?โ Stacey asked, confused.
Russel glanced at the Carter familyโs bodyguards. He sighed, stepping inside. โMy dad made me pursue you. Or heโll break my legs!โ he blurted. โI had to meet you. I just want to be friends. Iโll film this, show my dad I tried, and he'll stop.โ
He showed Stacey the video. It showed a simple accidental encounter. Debra watched too.
