Chapter 164

โ€œIโ€™m banned,โ€ Tina breathed, her voice tight.

Janet frowned. โ€œImpossible! Itโ€™s just plagiarism. Half the industry does it and thrives.โ€

Tina grimaced. โ€œI know. If I didnโ€™t, I wouldnโ€™t have helped you with it.โ€

โ€œBut Iโ€™m blacklisted! They wonโ€™t touch my work after the plagiarism,โ€ Tina said, her anxiety rising.

โ€œDid you offend someone?โ€ Janet snapped.

โ€œNo! My work was fine until โ€˜Her Majestyโ€™! They say the plagiarism was severe, that Iโ€™m a blacklisted screenwriterโ€”all because of โ€˜Her Majestyโ€™!โ€ Tina exclaimed, her voice edged with frustration.

Janet shrugged. โ€œMaybe someone used it as an excuse. They couldnโ€™t find a real fault.โ€

Tina stared, momentarily stunned, then snapped back. โ€œDonโ€™t even. I know what I did, and I havenโ€™t offended anyone.โ€ She pleaded, โ€œYou know people. Get me off this blacklist!โ€

Janetโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œWho do you think I am? They wonโ€™t listen to me!โ€

Tinaโ€™s silence spoke volumes. She knew Janet, an award-winning actress, was just a celebrity to the executives. But desperate, clinging to their shared secret, she pressed on. โ€œI donโ€™t care. You asked me to plagiarize. Help me, or Iโ€™ll release the recording. We go down together!โ€

โ€œYou!โ€ Janetโ€™s face darkened, her voice dangerously low.

Lisa poured Janet a coffee. Janet sipped it, then looked at Tina. โ€œI have an idea.โ€

Tinaโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œPay the author of โ€˜The Empress.โ€™ Get her to admit she sold you the copyright.โ€

Tina frowned. โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œThen itโ€™s not plagiarism. Itโ€™s a legitimate adaptation,โ€ Janet said coldly.

โ€œBut the copyrightโ€™s already sold,โ€ Tina protested.

โ€œThen get her to sell it again!โ€ Janet snapped.

Chapter 161

After a pause, Tina said, โ€œThe โ€˜Empressโ€™ author signed an exclusive buyout with Vicky for ten years. The film and television rights are hers. The author canโ€™t resell them.โ€

Janet sighed. โ€œThatโ€™s why you pay her. Money talks. Sheโ€™ll agree.โ€

โ€œAgree to sell the copyright? Then the real problem is the authorโ€™s greed โ€“ selling to multiple buyers. Weโ€™re victims!โ€ Tina nodded, relieved. โ€œIโ€™ll try.โ€

In South City, Stacey and the crew enjoyed a relaxed day off. The next morning, a small child darted towards Stacey, wrapping his arms around her legs. โ€œJeremy?โ€ she gasped, scooping him up. โ€œYouโ€™re here!โ€

Hayden followed, his presence commanding attention. The head of Southern TV beamed, joining them. The โ€˜Happy Little Mangoโ€™ director and coordinator rushed to greet them, the atmosphere buzzing with excitement.

Jeremy held up his tablet: [Becky, I miss you so much!]

Stacey kissed him. โ€œI miss you too!โ€ She stood, holding his hand, smiling at Hayden. โ€œYouโ€™re here.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€

Hayden scanned the crowd. โ€œWhere are Lily and Kev?โ€

Jeremyโ€™s eyes lit up. He looked expectantly at Stacey.

Stacey chuckled. โ€œTheyโ€™re home. They didnโ€™t come.โ€

Jeremyโ€™s tablet: [Why?]

Stacey knelt. โ€œJeremy, do you like your brother and sister?โ€

Jeremy nodded enthusiastically. [I like them!]

Staceyโ€™s heart melted. โ€œOkay,โ€ she smiled.

Meanwhile, Charlie, standing nearby, eyed Hayden with suspicion, a protective instinct kicking in. He sensed a potential rival for his sisterโ€™s affections.
