Chapter 2

Paul couldn't wait. He called his older brother, Patrick Carter, during office hours, sharing the urgent news. His voice trembled. "Patrick, you won't believe this! Get to the hospital, now! You and your wife! It's urgent! I found my niece! She's here, at our hospital! Hurry!" He hung up and rushed to the ward to see Rebecca.

Paul's abrupt call only increased Patrick's anxiety. He wondered if this "niece" was the child they had lost. Before he could ask questions, Paul hung up. Patrick wanted to swear, but it was his brother. He knew Paul wouldn't lie about something this significant. Excited, he rushed from his office, calling his wife on the way downstairs.

Debra Phillips' mind went blank when her husband called. Then, excitement surged. She bolted from the beauty salon, face mask still on, and jumped in her car, instructing the driver to head to the airport. She was going to Macloria! Could it really be their daughter? Their precious daughter, lost for over twenty years? Had they finally found her? Tears streamed down her face as she traveled to the airport. Remembering her face mask, she frantically cleaned it off. She had to look presentable for their first meeting. She couldn't scare her daughter! She then called her three sons, urging them to go to Maeloria immediately—they had found their sister!

The three Carter brothers, three of the four young elites of Hivalis, were thrilled. They immediately left for Maeloria.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Paul, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a white coat, burst into the room, startling everyone. They all turned to look, but Paul didn't pause. He quickly scanned the area before rushing to Rebecca.

Rebecca was startled, her heart pounding. She worried about unpaid fees.

Other patients and their families watched, curious. Only after entering did Paul realize he might have overstepped. The paternity test had been secret, and his niece was unaware of their connection.

He took a deep breath and looked at the girl in the hospital bed. The longer he looked, the more he saw his brother and Debra, especially Debra—Rebecca was her spitting image. "Becky… No, Rebecca…" He almost used her family nickname but corrected himself.

He spoke cautiously. "You are Rebecca, right? Do you feel this ward is a bit crowded? It might not be very comfortable. There are better rooms upstairs. If you want, we can move you to a more comfortable room right away."

Rebecca stared in bewilderment. 'Crowded…?' She glanced around at the crowded room, packed with mothers and families. Earlier, she had overheard their gossip. VIP rooms were hard to book. Could she really have one?

Paul saw her hesitation. "If you don't mind, we can get you settled in a new room right away." He called two nurses. They carefully took the twins while Paul helped Rebecca from the bed.

They left the noisy, crowded second-floor ward and moved to a luxurious VIP room on the fourth floor. The fourth-floor room was a private suite, tastefully decorated and incredibly comfortable.

Best of all, it had a huge double bed. Rebecca could stretch out with both babies beside her.

"Thank you, Mr. Carter," Rebecca said.

Paul couldn't take his eyes off his niece. Rebecca felt uneasy under his intense gaze.

"Mr. Carter, is there something you need to say?" she asked cautiously.

Paul hesitantly nodded, then carefully took out a paternity test certificate and handed it to Rebecca. Rebecca's eyes widened in shock as she read it. She looked up at Paul.

He introduced himself, stumbling over his words. "Um… I'm Paul Carter, your dad's younger brother, your uncle. I'm your family!"

Rebecca's eyes widened further. Paul, nervous, continued, "Uh… Becky, don't freak out. Your mom, dad, and brothers are already on their way. They're in Hivalis, but it'll take them about three hours to get here. Just wait patiently. They'll be here soon, I swear."
