Chapter 212

In Daprein, Stacey nervously accompanied Hayden to meet Eugene. But with Hayden beside her, her anxiety vanished. Instead of a business meeting, Hayden presented himself as a suitor, commissioning Eugene to design a commemorative ring. He spun a tale of their childhood, separation, marriages, divorces, and hard-won reunion, captivating Eugene. The stiff formality melted away, replaced by warmth.

To personalize the ring, Hayden invited Eugene to Zentiscape, their childhood home. Eugene readily accepted.

Leaving Eugene's, Stacey felt dazed. "Still in shock?" Hayden chuckled, pinching her cheek. His touch surprised her, but he quickly withdrew his hand.

"Step by step," he said, smiling. "We've invited him to Zentiscape. Once he knows us better, we'll bring up Carter's Jewel."

Stacey nodded, "You're amazing!"

Pleased, Hayden took her hand. She tensed. He pulled her into a hallway, kissed her. Stacey's eyes widened, but she didn't resist. He deepened the kiss, then stopped when she pushed him away.

"I'm sorry," he murmured.

Blushing, Stacey stammered, "I—"

Hayden laughed softly, patting her head. "Don't think too much. When are you going home?"

"Soon," she said. "There's not much left to do."

"Good," Hayden said. "Once we're back, we need a detailed itinerary for Mr. Fraley's visit—our childhood, our lives, everything. Make it irresistible. We need him to love Zentiscape."

"Okay," Stacey agreed eagerly.

"Include me," Hayden added.

Stacey frowned. "Include you?"

"Yes," Hayden explained. "We’re pretending I'm pursuing you. If you're the only one showing him our memories, it'll seem fake."

"But your work?" Stacey worried.

Hayden chuckled. "My life isn't all work. I've worked hard, and now I want to enjoy life, with you."

"But Hoggard Technologies?"

"Dad can handle things," Hayden said easily. "Besides, I deserve a vacation."

Stacey smiled, understanding. "Okay. I'll draft the plan and send it to you."

Hayden nodded. After seeing her back to her room, he left.

Debra rushed in. "How did it go?"

Stacey nodded. "Almost. Then," she sat down with Debra, recounting the day.

Debra’s eyes lit up. "Hay's clever! Becky, plan carefully. I'll help if you need it."

Stacey smiled. "Okay."
