Listen to this chapter:

Stacey and Charlie shared the Best Actor award, a moment made even more special when the organizer asked Charlie to present the award to Stacey. The host’s quick wit and the perfectly timed lighting enhanced the already electric atmosphere. From the stage, Stacey spotted Janet in the crowd, a surprising sight. She quickly composed herself, engaging with Charlie and the host before delivering her acceptance speech.

Their moment over, Stacey and Charlie descended, awards in hand. Malcolm followed, his speech causing a ripple of laughter. He thanked Charlie for the opportunity and Becky (Stacey) for her good luck. He joked about how meeting her had made him luckier, wishing her continued happiness and perhaps some of that luck to rub off on him.

The host, seizing the moment, playfully asked about Malcolm and Becky’s future collaboration. Malcolm, looking directly at Stacey before returning his gaze to the host, grinned, “Aren’t you talking nonsense? Becky’s my lucky star. If there’s a chance to work with her, absolutely!”

The host roared with laughter, then, grabbing the microphone, playfully turned to Stacey. “Becky, are you willing to cooperate with Malcolm?”

Stacey glanced at Hayden beside her, a smile playing on her lips. “I might focus more on family business in the future,” she said into the microphone. “Acting time might be limited.”

“Inheriting a hundred million?” the host teased, prompting another wave of laughter.

Stacey chuckled, “Not quite that much. I’m going back to the family business to train and help my father.”

“Just earning twenty million a day then,” the host quipped, his exaggerated expression earning another round of amusement.

The host smoothly moved on to the next segment, leaving everyone’s attention shifting to the following performances and award presentations.

But Janet couldn’t shake the image of Stacey’s triumphant win – two awards, a stunning gown, the undeniable glow of success. The contrast with Janet’s own struggles was stark; her tarnished image plagued her, leaving her scraping for minor roles, constantly battling criticism. She clung to the hope of her upcoming relationship with Ryan, believing it would bring better opportunities. But Stacey’s return to her family business, inheriting a significant portion of the family's industry chain, shattered those hopes.

Memories flooded back: Stacey, the impoverished child, shivering without blankets while Janet was unhappy; Janet's cold cruelty as a child, Stacey chasing after their car in tears. A wave of resentment washed over her. ‘Why her? Why does she have it all?’ Janet gripped her purse tightly, before carefully checking it for damage – every purse was precious now.

She forced herself to refocus on the stage, but her eyes kept drifting to Stacey. The ceremony ended, leaving Janet consumed by anxiety. She scanned the room, searching for prominent directors. She spotted them huddled around Stacey and Charlie.

A dark shadow passed over Janet’s face, quickly masked by a practiced smile. She had to act. She had to approach them, swallow her pride, and beg for a role. She had to reclaim her stardom, not just for herself, but for Joe. His interest was fleeting; only success would secure him.

Approaching Stacey, she plastered on a smile. "Congratulations on winning two awards," she offered smoothly.
