Listen to this chapter:

Since Charlie married, playtime with the family kids dwindled. They missed him, and were captivated by Claireโ€™s burgeoning belly. Christmas brought the whole clanโ€”even Bryce and Ramona, with their two sons. A whirlwind of children swarmed Claire, eyes wide with curiosity.

Charlie, however, quickly shooed them away. "Two minutes!" he declared, gently but firmly herding them three feet from Claire. The rest of the family understood; they corralled their offspring, emphasizing gentle behavior.

The Carter kids, loving and protective, understood. They moved cautiously around Claire, mindful of her condition. The adults had explained the dangers of falls for pregnant women.

Claire felt the warmth of their concern, the collective anticipation. The Carter family, a vibrant, loving unit, was a world away from the Jones family. She often thought of Lydia; she imagined Lydiaโ€™s joy at this scene.

Christmas dinner was a feast, with Charlie adding Claireโ€™s favorites. Later, during the fireworks display, Claireโ€™s contractions began.

Charlie saw it instantly, his face paling. Panic rippled through the family, the festive mood dissolving. Claire was rushed to the hospital. Debra called Stacey immediately.

At Hoggard Manor, Stacey was stunned by the news. Hayden, amidst the fireworks with the children, was equally surprised, then grinned. He delegated childcare to Jack, who readily agreed.

"Aunt Claire's having a baby! I want to go!" Jeremy declared, bolting towards his parents. Lillian and Kevin echoed him, their eyes bright. Even Abigail and Aaron joined the chorus.

"Let's all go!" Audrey suggested, a smile lighting her face. "It's a happy occasion!" Jack agreed, "We can manage the kids."

Stacey, who'd initially been reserved with her in-laws, now felt comfortable. They were a good fit, sharing the Carter family's warmth. They quickly told Jason and Sharon, who gave their blessing.

On the way, Stacey pictured the babyโ€”boy or girl? Charlie, she knew, had a list of names ready, a testament to their shared excitement.

Arriving at the hospital, they found the whole extended family assembledโ€”the Adrians, Bryces, Ramonas, and even their parents.

"How is she?" Stacey asked her mother.

Debra beamed. "She just went in. It might take a while." She glanced at Jack and Audrey, delighted by their presence. A warm reunion ensued, Yolanda quickly engaging with Abigail and Aaron.
