Chapter 41
The next morning, the crew returned to Maeloria. Everyone went their separate ways, heading home.
In the Carters' car, Rebecca slowly woke up. She groggily opened her eyes; the first thing she saw was the babies in the nannies' arms across from her.
Debra, holding her daughter, quickly noticed Rebecca waking up. She smiled and softly said, "Morning."
Rebecca looked up, realizing she had fallen asleep in her mother's arms. Her ears turned red with embarrassment. She was a mother of two, yet she felt like a child.
"Morning," she nodded shyly. She didn't want to hide her feelings from her mother.
Debra's heart melted. "Want to sleep a bit longer? We've arrived in Maeloria. We'll be home soon," Debra said.
Rebecca shook her head, sitting up. Her gaze fell on the babies, and she reached out.
The nanny carefully handed her Lily.
"Both children have already been fed," Debra said.
Rebecca smiled and nodded. "Okay."
She turned to the baby, marveling at its softness and cuteness, even asleep.
A few minutes later, Lily woke up. Her long eyelashes fluttered before she slowly opened her eyes.
"Hey there..." Rebecca chuckled, trying to amuse the baby.
Lily paused, then smiled. She stretched out her hand, trying to grab her mother's face.
Charlie came over to look at Lily. He thought she was quite cute. He took Kev from the nanny. Rebecca also leaned in to look at Kev.
Kev opened his eyes and stared at Rebecca, neither crying nor fussing. A minute later, he realized it was his mother!
"Mama..." Kev called out, reaching out his little hands.
Rebecca handed Lily to the nanny and took Kev. But Lily wasn't happy. She preferred her mother to the nanny. Seeing her mother holding another baby, Lily reached out, upset. She pouted and burst into tears.
Rebecca panicked, holding Kev while checking on Lily. Lily wailed, feeling betrayed. She reached out, insisting on being held.
Rebecca hurriedly handed Kev to Debra and held Lily. Kev paused, then reached out to his mother with anxious gurgles. Debra brought Kev closer to Rebecca.
Kev calmed down, his tiny hand gripping his mother's sleeve. In Rebecca's arms, Lily smiled, her tears replaced with a smile.
Lily then noticed Kev. She reached out, grabbed his hand, and yanked, then pushed!
The adults watched, surprised by Lily's assertiveness. Rebecca tried to pull Lily away. Charlie also tried to pry Lily's hand off.
Lily stubbornly held on. Eventually, they separated her from Kev.
Twenty minutes later, they reached home. The car pulled up to the villa, but Rebecca hesitated. Should they go to Theodore's place or the one her mother had bought next door?
"Why don't you stay with us? It's more comfortable," Debra said.
Rebecca agreed, "Sure."
Karen's house was next to Theodore's villa. Rebecca felt more comfortable with her own family, even though they had only been reunited for a month. She felt happier than she had in twenty years.
Theodore's house brought back unpleasant memories.
"I'm going to pack up my stuff," Rebecca declared.
"We're with you, sweetie!" Patrick said. "Your mom and you can pack, while your brother and I do the heavy lifting."
Rebecca smiled and nodded. "Sounds good."
Debra instructed the nanny to take the babies to their house and joined Rebecca.
It only took over an hour to pack. Theodore's maid watched, puzzled. Rebecca was conflicted about what would happen to the maid.
Rebecca decided to pay the maid and let her go. The maid was shocked but accepted the money and left.
Rebecca locked the door and headed to her parents' house.
"Becky, we fixed up the upstairs room for you," Patrick beamed. "Stay as long as you like!"
"Okay," Rebecca replied.
"Let's go take a look," Debra said.
They went upstairs to a beautifully decorated pink princess room. She had her own princess room!
