Chapter 44

Lesley watched from the side, her face souring. She couldn't leave, however; she had to see what clothes Becky and Debra would buy. If their purchases surpassed hers, she couldn't use her own to apologize to Janet. Lesley remained, and the salesperson hesitated to ask her to leave. After a long pause, two more chairs were brought over.

The latest Glamour Closet collection was small, comprising only fourteen pieces: three top-tier, four mid-range, and seven third-tier items.

After the show, Debra produced a gold card. "I'll take all three top-tier pieces," she said. "One set each for me and Becky. Ensure they're in our sizes."

The staff were stunned. The head salesperson's eyes widened. "Is that…a real gold card?"

Debra frowned. "What are you waiting for?" she urged, seeing the salesperson's shock.

The head salesperson snapped to attention. "Ma'am, this is a significant purchase," she said respectfully. "May I consult our manager?"

Packaging two sets of the top-tier items easily exceeded one million dollars; they lacked the authority to make such a decision.

Debra nodded. "Go ahead."

The head salesperson, a mix of excitement and nervousness evident in her slightly trembling hands, quickly took the card. She had only seen such a card during training. It was surreal to see a guest possess one.

Lesley's mind blanked. She couldn't believe it. They wanted the top-tier items? Three of each, in two sets? One for Becky and one for this woman? The top-tier dresses started at tens of thousands of dollars, the most expensive exceeding two hundred thousand. Becky and Debra were spending this kind of money like it was pocket change.

Lesley felt the clothes burning her hands. Where had she gotten the nerve to try and stop them? There was no way she could give this dress to Janet now; it would be a major insult.

"Um, excuse me… Could I, like, return this?" Lesley stammered, pale-faced.

The clerk, still reeling from Debra's gold card, looked at Lesley. Their expression turned grim, considering Lesley's earlier rudeness toward Debra and Becky, their VIP customer. Their displeasure intensified when Lesley requested a return on an already-paid-for outfit.

"Ms. Bretherton, this outfit has been paid for," the clerk responded coldly. "We do not accept returns without a quality issue."

Lesley fell silent.

Rebecca stared, perplexed. She and her mother had bought superior clothing; why was Lesley so upset? Was Lesley that arrogant? Just because she'd previously purchased from the brand, no one else could buy better clothes? She must be out of her mind.

The head salesperson returned, even more respectful than before. She carefully handed the clothes and gold card back to Debra with both hands. Debra took the card and directed a maid to take the clothes.

Lesley stared in disbelief. "Who is this woman? Why are the Glamour Closet staff treating her with such respect?"

After Debra and Becky finished their purchases, they left. Debra didn't glance at Lesley, taking Rebecca's hand and leading her out. Rebecca followed silently.

At Mitchell Villa, Lisa handed Janet a USB drive. "Janet, here's the information you requested. When Rebecca and Mr. Edwards began divorce proceedings, someone anonymously tipped off Melissa. After receiving the call, Melissa feigned illness to get Mr. Edwards away."

Janet frowned, taking the drive. "I knew it. Rebecca wouldn't agree to a divorce easily. She's playing hard to get." She asked, "Is this proof Rebecca had someone call Melissa?"

Lisa hesitated, shaking her head. "No. I couldn't trace the anonymous caller. There's no confirmation linking the call to Rebecca. This USB drive contains fabricated evidence. If you give this to Mr. Edwards, he'll likely believe Rebecca intentionally called Melissa."

Janet was speechless. "Useless! You couldn't even dig up that info?" She scolded briefly, then nodded. "Fine, if you can't find it, drop it. Ensure the information we have is solid. Convincing Theodore is all that matters."

"What about the Glamour Closet endorsement competition?" Janet continued. "Did you get the outfits?"

Lisa nodded. "Everything's settled. Lesley almost embarrassed you at the reality show, but to make amends, she's buying you the latest Glamour Closet outfit. Wearing it to the audition will secure you the position!"

Janet's expression soured at the mention of Lesley, but Lesley's amends lessened her anger.

Lisa hesitated, speaking up for Lesley. "Janet, we shouldn't blame Lesley entirely. I watched the livestream. Lesley was secretly trying to release Rebecca and Charlie's chickens, but Ben unexpectedly changed the strategy, making Lesley appear to be sabotaging the team. Lesley was simply handling the situation as best she could."

Janet was displeased. If Lesley was innocent, then she was the problem. She hadn't known what to do on the reality show, which explained her lack of prominence.

She kept her thoughts to herself, changing the subject coldly. "Where are the clothes?"

"She should be getting them," Lisa replied quickly. "I'll check on her."

"Tell her to hurry. I can't be late for this audition," Janet said, tapping her foot impatiently.

Lisa nodded repeatedly. "Yes, I know. I'll get her moving."
