Chapter 47
At Edwards Villa, Theodore calmed down and returned to his study to handle business. However, upon turning on his computer, he found an anonymous email. He frowned as he opened it, his frown deepening.
Theodore mused, "Was it Rebecca who had someone tell Grandma about our divorce last time at the courthouse? Did that make Grandma pretend to be sick and stop the divorce?"
He might have believed the email a few hours earlier, but now…
Theodore touched his face, feeling the lingering spit from the couple beside Rebecca. His expression darkened.
He knew instantly who was so invested in his marriage to Rebecca. Theodore sneered and replied: “[You need help! Quit prying into other people's business!]”
Meanwhile, at Mitchell Villa, Janet was about to sleep after sending the email when a special notification sounded.
Excited, she jumped up. The notification was reserved for Theodore’s emails; could this be a reply?
Janet excitedly opened the email, but his response startled her.
She wondered, "Doesn't Theodore believe it? Someone did anonymously call Mrs. Melissa Edwards that day. It must have been Rebecca. I can't think of anyone else!"
Janet’s anger flared. She was frustrated by her lack of solid evidence. With that, Theodore would surely believe her.
She sent another message: “[Someone really called your grandmother that day about your divorce. If you don't believe me, check it yourself. I swear I'm not making this up.]”
Feeling better, she still wondered if Theodore could discover who made the anonymous call. Janet sneered. Rebecca’s tricks were childish. What a joke.
Back at Edwards Villa, Theodore received another email, opened it, and frowned deeply.
Chapter 47
Rebecca, next door, tossed and turned all night and woke at dawn. Everyone else was asleep except the maid, cooking in the kitchen.
Rebecca entered, surprising the maid. "Ms. Carter, why are you up so early? Is something wrong?"
Rebecca shook her head. "It's nothing."
She asked the maid, "What do my parents usually like to eat? I… I want to make them breakfast myself."
Lucy, the maid who had always worked for Rebecca’s parents (recently moved from Hivalis), likely knew their preferences best.
Lucy, confused, quickly nodded. "Uh-huh… Mr. and Mrs. Carter will surely be thrilled, Ms. Carter."
Rebecca prepared breakfast, knowing her father loved pancakes and her mother preferred a smoothie bowl.
When Patrick and Debra came downstairs at seven and discovered their daughter had made breakfast, they were surprised and delighted.
It was a simple breakfast, but they took pictures and posted them on Twitter: "[This is our breakfast today, and it was made by my daughter!]" The bragging was obvious.
After posting, they eagerly ate. Rebecca had made an extra smoothie bowl for herself.
Once full, she checked the time; over an hour before the courthouse opened.
Chapter 47
Debra reminded Rebecca, "Becky, do you still have the divorce license? Remind Theodore to bring all the necessary documents, so we're prepared at the courthouse."
Rebecca nodded. "Okay."
"How about you send him a message now? Let's leave as soon as the courthouse opens," Debra suggested.
Rebecca agreed. She texted Theodore: "[We're finalizing our divorce today. Make sure to have the divorce license and other required documents ready. Don't forget this.]"
Theodore, next door, woke groggily to the message notification. He frowned, picked up his phone, unlocked it, and opened the message. He instantly felt awake.
His pleasant mood vanished, replaced by rage. He irritably threw his phone aside.
He thought, gritting his teeth, "Divorce? No way Rebecca is getting a divorce before we figure out what happened last time!"
It was half past eight. Rebecca went to Edwards Villa and knocked.
Theodore opened the door, his expression cold.
"Did you… get everything ready? Let's go," Rebecca said sadly.
Theodore nodded, said nothing, and got into the car. Rebecca turned to leave.
Theodore grabbed her and pulled her into the car. "We're going together!"
Rebecca was stunned.
Next door, Debra, seeing Theodore manhandling her daughter, was furious. She was about to intervene when Theodore's car sped off.
“Damn it! That bastard!” Debra almost cursed aloud. Theodore was shameless.
Patrick ruffled his wife’s hair. "Calm down. They're getting divorced anyway."
Debra nodded. The thought of her daughter being rid of him eased her.
She urged, "Quick, let's follow them. Theodore is always up to something. We can't let him hurt Becky."
