Chapter 56
"No?" Rebecca asked, her brows furrowed in confusion.
Lynn looked perplexed. "Yeah, I can't see it either," she replied.
A mysterious smile played on Charlie's lips. He produced a magnifying glass and handed it to Rebecca. "Take a look at this," he suggested.
Rebecca was taken aback but accepted the glass. Could it really be so precise that she needed a magnifying glass?
"Quick! Take a look," Courtney urged, her curiosity evident.
Rebecca carefully scanned the earrings and finally spotted her name engraved at the very bottom. It was true!
"It's engraved with such precision," Lynn marveled.
What was even more impressive was that despite the precise engraving, there was no visible flaw. The engraved area melded seamlessly with the earring's design.
"Put them on for the ribbon-cutting ceremony," Charlie coaxed, smiling.
Rebecca complied. Lynn took the magnifying glass and watched as Rebecca put on the earrings and bracelet. "What about you?" Courtney asked, looking at Charlie.
Charlie chuckled, settling onto a stool. "You're still as sharp as ever, Courtney," he said.
Rebecca chuckled; Charlie was forever the life of the party. When it came to makeup, guys had it easy. Courtney needed only half an hour to work her magic on Charlie.
"Okay, let's all go to the store together," Charlie declared cheerfully, clapping his hands.
"Charlie," Lynn interjected anxiously, "you... are you coming too?"
Charlie raised an eyebrow, looking at Lynn before smiling at Rebecca. "Of course! It's Becky's first endorsement gig: I've got to be there to watch her back!" he asserted confidently. Watching him, Rebecca felt the comforting presence beneath his lively exterior.
"Do you have the invitation?" Lynn asked curiously.
Charlie chuckled. "Of course I do! Getting it was a piece of cake!" He pulled out a red invitation card.
Lynn examined the invitation, her gaze flickering between Charlie and Rebecca. "There's something I'm not sure if I should ask," she began tentatively.
"Becky and I aren't dating. We don't have romantic feelings for each other, and we will never be together. Is that satisfactory?" Charlie explained.
Lynn chuckled. "It's just a professional inquiry," she explained.
"I understand," Charlie nodded. Lynn had simply suspected they were dating.
Charlie looked at Rebecca, affectionately ruffling her hair. "Lynn, I think of Becky as my little sister, and I just want to protect her well for the rest of my life!" he said with a smile.
Lynn froze. The phrase "rest of my life" had slipped out naturally. Though simple, it carried profound weight.
"Okay," Lynn nodded after a moment's thought.
Inside Janet's dressing room at Evergrande Entertainment. Today was the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Carter's Jewel's branch opening, followed by the grand opening banquet.
Janet slipped into her black gown and adorned her neck with a new gold necklace from Carter's Jewel, bought at Hivalis a couple of days ago. Gazing at herself in the mirror, she marveled at her beauty. The necklace was particularly stunning, making her repeatedly compare her makeup and necklace.
"Janet, that necklace from the Carter family suits you perfectly," Lisa praised.
Janet chuckled, sitting down. "That's for sure."
"When does the banquet start?" Janet asked.
Glancing at the time, Lisa replied, "It's still an hour away. We'll wait a bit longer before heading out."
Janet nodded. "Sure."
Janet glanced at Mary and Arthur. Mary cared for Arthur while Janet worked. Mary looked nervous when Janet approached.
Sitting beside them, Janet picked up one of Arthur's toys and played with him. Absentmindedly watching Arthur's face, she hoped to see features resembling hers or Theodore's. Knowing Arthur was hers and Theodore's son made her heart swell.
But after staring at him, her brows furrowed. Why did it feel like Arthur didn't have any features resembling Theodore's? Sons took after their mothers, daughters after their fathers. Could it be that because Arthur was a boy, he resembled Janet more?
Janet pondered before relaxing. Perhaps it was normal.
Carter's Jewel was adorned with banners; staff in suits celebrated joyfully. At the entrance, two rows of flowers lined a red carpet. Many citizens gathered, smiling curiously.
When Rebecca and Charlie's car arrived, the place was already bustling. As Charlie stepped out, many passersby recognized him. "Is that Charlie?" they exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh, it's Charlie! I can't believe my idol's here!"
Passersby were initially shocked, then excited. This was especially true for Charlie's fans, who hurried over. Thankfully, the Carter family had arranged security guards to intercept them, preventing chaos.
Charlie greeted them with a wave. Some fans recognized Rebecca from a variety show. "That's Becky, right?" they exclaimed. "Is it Becky? I'm going crazy! Charlie and Becky are still together, and they're even attending events together!"
The fans shouted excitedly, taking pictures. Rebecca glanced at Charlie, then raised her hand and greeted everyone graciously. "Hello, everyone, I'm Becky."
Hearing her greeting, the fans became even more excited. "Becky is talking to us! Her voice sounds even nicer than during the livestreams!"
