Chapter 60

Theodore left, and other guests followed suit. Soon, the banquet hall was considerably less crowded. Patrick remained cheerful until the last VIP departed.

Back home, Debra's face hardened. "Theodore is becoming more disgusting by the day," she muttered angrily. "Becky must divorce him!" Divorce was a certainty, but Theodore was adamant about retaining custody and keeping the child's surname. Without his consent, they were at a standstill, leaving Debra furious.

Patrick smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, take it slow. If he's reluctant to divorce and wants to drag it out, then we'll drag it out with him. We won't be the ones bothered in the end."

"What do you mean?" Debra frowned, displeased by his implication.

Patrick looked at his wife, then his daughter, before smiling. "How many years did that scumbag torment Becky?"

"Becky took care of him for so long, and what does he do? He gets involved with other women, sleeping around! Isn't Janet pregnant with his child? I heard she gave birth around the same time as Becky, yet he felt no remorse! Does he realize he's wronged Becky?"

Debra, sensing mischief, her eyes lit up. "What do you have in mind?"

Patrick chuckled. "We'll take a page from his book. Why else would I have bought a house next to his?"

Rebecca grew nervous. "Dad... do you have a plan?"

Patrick nodded, his eyes filled with affection. "Yes."

Seeing their curiosity, Patrick explained, "Becky, has Theodore always thought it was okay to flirt with other women without caring if it hurts you? Since that's the case, we move in next to him and make him watch you get close to other 'men' right under his nose. I wonder if he can stand watching it."

His plan left Rebecca and Debra speechless.

"Wait, honey, what do you mean? I don't quite understand. We live here, so how is it the same as Becky getting close to other 'men' in Theodore's eyes?" Debra asked, confused.

Paul took a sip of water, amazed by Patrick's scheme. Unable to resist, he chimed in, "Debra, think about it. Isn't Theodore misunderstanding Becky's relationship with Chuck?"

"Yeah, so what?" Debra asked, confused.

Debra quickly understood. The 'man' her husband mentioned was Chuck.

"But when we bought the house, Theodore didn't have any misunderstandings about them, right?"

Paul chuckled. "That's right. But isn't it just a matter of time before he does?" He glanced at Rebecca, thinking she was as innocent as her mother.

"Chuck doesn't know his boundaries. After we found Becky, he started showering her with affection, but outsiders don't know they're siblings. As adults, and with Chuck being so kind to Becky, it's only natural for others to misunderstand them."

Debra's eyes widened. "So you foresaw Theodore misunderstanding Becky and Chuck's relationship, deliberately bought the house next door, waiting for him to jump to conclusions, just to infuriate him?"

Patrick and Paul exchanged knowing smiles. When it came to dealing with men, their own kind knew best.

Becky getting the divorce license meant her liberation. But letting it end there would be letting Theodore off too easily. With Becky under their protection, Theodore couldn't make her suffer any more! It was time to strike back. Every bit Theodore owed Becky, they would reclaim, down to the last penny. Theodore's mistress, his flirting with Janet, getting Janet pregnant, making Becky sufferโ€”now they could live next door and make Theodore feel the same torment.

"Will this really work? Would that scumbag even care?" Debra seemed to understand, yet was confused.

Paul chuckled. "Why wouldn't it work? Hasn't Theodore been on the brink of losing it these past few days?"

"Didn't you find Theodore's expression at the banquet amusing?" Paul smirked.

"No man can feel comfortable knowing his wife is being flirtatious with another man, even if he doesn't love her," Patrick interjected.

Debra fell silent. Rebecca was stunned. She hadn't realized her dad was so clever.

"But...isn't it a bit wrong for him to misunderstand my relationship with Charlie?" Rebecca voiced her unease.

Patrick chuckled. "Don't worry. You and Chuck are siblings, so nothing will happen. We'll make Theodore uncomfortable for a while. Once we have the divorce license and the truth comes out, all misunderstandings will be cleared up. Then, Theodore will be the only clown left standing."

Rebecca fell silent. That was a sinister plan.

"Making Theodore uncomfortable is one thing, but Becky needs to hurry up and divorce him. Getting rid of that scumbag is most important," Debra interjected calmly.

"Of course," Patrick nodded. Revenge was important, but nothing outweighed his daughter's happiness. As long as Becky was tied to Theodore, it wouldn't be good. If divorce was possible, they had to seize the opportunity.

Patrick thought. "Michael and Helen are currently dreaming of Theodore marrying the lady from the Smith family. We should find a way through them. It shouldn't be too difficult."

Debra looked at her husband. "Then you better come up with a plan to get Becky the divorce license as soon as possible."

"Got it." Patrick nodded.

Rebecca's emotions were complex, yet she was deeply moved.
