Chapter 10

Leroy met Scarlett’s gaze and offered her a reassuring look. “Don’t worry, leave it to me. You’ll be fine,” An inexplicable sense of comfort washed over Scarlett, something Cedric could never give her. Her stomach issues had always been worse than Leroy’s, but under his careful care over the years, she had slowly recovered. Now, with overwhelming work stress and no one to watch her diet, it was no surprise her old illness had flared up again. Once the treatment was finished, Scarlett was moved to a regular hospital room.

Leroy turned to Cedric, his voice tinged with frustration and blame. “I told you before, her body is fragile. She can’t handle spicy food, let alone alcohol. She needs to stick to a light diet. How could you let her skip meals? Do you even realize how dangerous that is?”

Cedric scoffed coldly. “Leroy, do me a favor and know your place, will you? She’s my wife. I don’t need you telling me how to take care of her.”

Leroy froze, momentarily speechless. “You…”

Cedric’s eyes narrowed as he smirked. “And who are you, still hanging around now that the treatment’s done? What? Are you still trying to win Lettie over? Listen carefully, the two of you are divorced. She’s my woman now, and this has nothing to do with you!”

Leroy’s gaze flickered to Scarlett, still unconscious on the bed, his anger simmering just beneath the surface. He wanted to say more, but the words caught in his throat, and he swallowed them back.

At that moment, Zoe stormed into the room. “What’s wrong with you? Mr. Olson was just concerned about the patient! The least you could do is show some gratitude. How dare you talk to him like that? Apologize right now!”

Cedric let out a sharp laugh, clearly amused. “And who are you, huh? It’s like you have no place in this conversation.”

His eyes darted between Leroy and Zoe, a glint of exaggerated realization lighting up his face. “Oh, I see now. Something is going on between you two, isn’t there? Why else would you be so desperate to defend him?”

Before anyone could respond, Cedric’s voice grew louder, echoing down the hallway as he put on a show for anyone within earshot. “Hey, everyone! Come look at this! The attending doctor and his intern are fooling around together, it’s shameful! And this so-called doctor even harasses my wife. Someone like him, with no ethics, should be kicked out of the hospital!”

Cedric continued shouting, and a crowd began to gather. However, most of the murmuring voices carried complaints and criticism against him. “Who is this guy? What nonsense is he spouting?” “Honestly, Dr. Olson isn’t like that. I know him.”

Get out, Cedric, undated, asserted arrogantly as he glared at Leroy. “From now on, I forbid you from seeing Lettie again. If I catch you anywhere near her, I’ll beat you to a pulp. And you, you nosy little brat, stay out of this! Or else…”

Before he could finish, a heavy boot suddenly struck him from behind. Caught off guard, Cedric stumbled forward and fell flat on his face. “Who did that? Are you looking for a fight?” Cedric sputtered as he scrambled back to his feet, furious and disheveled. But when he turned around and saw who it was, his face went pale. Standing there was none other than Samuel.

Behind Samuel stood a sizable group of bodyguards dressed in black suits. One of them held a decorative banner, clearly a gift intended for Leroy. Cedric’s hands began to tremble as he clasped them together nervously. “Mr. Black, what brings you here?”

Samuel’s icy gaze cut straight through him, as though Cedric were little more than air. “A call warning you—don’t mess with Dr. Olson, or you’ll regret it. Did you think my words were just hot air?”

“Mr. Black, you don’t understand! This guy has gone too far! Not only is he messing around with his intern, but he’s also harassing my wife!”

A vicious blow to Cedric’s face froze him, leaving him silent as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He clutched his cheek in disbelief.
