Chapter 72

Scarlett smiled, but only one set of utensils was on the table. Zoe’s mind flashed back to Leroy’s earlier words. She couldn’t afford to get angry; otherwise, Scarlett would take advantage of the situation.

“Ms. Payne, this meal was prepared especially for you. It’s a special diet for patients. I won’t take food from a patient.” With that, Zoe shook her head helplessly.

“But I was lucky enough to try the soup Mr. Olson made once. It was absolutely delicious.” Zoe’s remarks stunned Scarlett.

“What do you mean? Leroy made soup for you, too?”

Zoe nodded eagerly. “Didn’t you know? Mr. Olson is really considerate toward us. Whenever he has something good, he always shares it with us.” She sighed. “Some people just don’t know how to appreciate good things.”

“I wouldn’t have had this treat if Cedric hadn’t brought you soup earlier.” She shook her head again. “Ms. Payne, I’ve been waiting here for you. I’ll clean up once you’re done. That way, no one can say our hospital doesn’t provide you with excellent care.”

Scarlett raised an eyebrow. “Where’s Leroy? Didn’t I ask him to look after me?”

“Ms. Payne, Dr. Olson has surgeries to attend to. You can’t expect everyone to revolve around you, can you?”

Zoe scoffed, but Scarlett said nothing more. After all, Zoe was Samuel’s daughter, and Scarlett knew better than to offend her.

“I’ve lost my appetite. Tell Dr. Olson to make it simpler next time. What’s with this half-hearted effort after our divorce?” Scarlett chuckled.

Zoe snorted as she moved to clear the table. However, Leroy wasn’t in surgery; he was in his office.

Zoe walked into his office, clearly annoyed. “Mr. Olson, do you think Scarlett is here on purpose? Maybe she’s trying to use this opportunity to get back together with you.”

Leroy realized they were at odds again. “Stop picking on Ms. Payne.”

“I didn’t say anything.”

Just as he finished speaking, Zoe walked over. “Mr. Olson, I’ve discovered something significant. Do you know where Cedric went?” Zoe asked mysteriously.

Leroy was curious. He hadn’t heard anything about this before. Now that Scarlett was hospitalized, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Cedric to make his move. However, the latter hadn’t visited her at all. Leroy couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. “Where did he go?” He glanced at Zoe.

She quickly replied, “He went to Payne Group. I had someone look into it. I also heard that the board is dissatisfied with Ms. Payne; Cedric might be the key to this.”

When Payne Group was mentioned, Leroy lost interest. Zoe sighed. “But Mr. Olson, you should be careful. I have a feeling that Scarlett has ulterior motives.”

Leroy didn’t respond; he merely gave a slight nod.

Late at night, Scarlett couldn’t sleep and was scrolling through her phone. Cedric had been surprisingly well-behaved on his first day. Even Grace was slightly taken aback.

“I told you before, you can trust Cedric. He’s not like the other men you’ve met,” Scarlett had sent her friend a voice message.

But after listening to it, Grace simply shook her head. “Scarlett’s so caught up in love,” she muttered, staring at the screen.
