Chapter 10
As soon as Gilmore fastened his seatbelt, Luke asked, "Gilmore, what's your budget?"
"A detached villa, several hundred square meters, in the two-to-four-million-dollar range," Gilmore replied after a moment's thought.
He had over $20 million. Buying a two-to-four-million-dollar villa was perfectly acceptable. A few hundred square meters was perhaps a bit large for just his parents, sister, and himself, but that would change once he married and had children. Most importantly, he possessed supernatural abilities—his eyes could see patterns of life, death, fortune, and wealth. With this "God's Eye," money was no longer a concern.
Luke was aghast. A two-to-four-million-dollar villa, several hundred square meters—Gilmore spoke of it so casually. Even Luke, from a wealthy business family, couldn't be so nonchalant. He suspected Gilmore's winnings were far greater than a few million dollars, but he didn't pry into the man's finances. He simply filed away the knowledge that Gilmore was now newly rich.
After a moment, Luke's eyes lit up. "There's one," he said. "A real estate friend mentioned a sale starting today from Evergreen Properties—top villas, millions of dollars. Why don't we take a look?"
Evergreen Properties was Oakhaven's largest real estate company and a major Eldoria developer. Gilmore also knew Christine, the Oakhaven University campus belle he'd kissed the other day, was the president's daughter.
"By the way," Luke gossiped, starting the car, "you haven't told me about you and Christine."
"I didn't 'hook up' with her," Gilmore said honestly.
"What?" Luke slammed on the brakes. He stared incredulously. "Then why did you kiss her after school?"
"Drive," Gilmore said. "I'll tell you the story."
Ten minutes later, Luke was stunned. What a drama! He'd imagined a romantic tale of a poor boy winning a rich girl's heart. Instead, a scheming girl betrayed Gilmore, prompting him to kiss a random girl to salvage his dignity.
It made sense that Luke didn't know the truth; Christine was famous. People only saw the kiss; no one knew Tiffany had betrayed Gilmore. After hearing the story, Luke frowned. "The kiss is all over Oakhaven University. Lay low for a few days before returning to school."
"Afraid Christine's wealthy admirers will cause trouble?" Gilmore asked with a smile.
Luke nodded. "There's one person we can't afford to offend—he keeps other rich kids in line."
"Who?"
"Marco Chapman," Luke answered seriously.
The name was unfamiliar, but Chapman was famous—Realm Group, a pharmaceutical, medical device, beauty, and cosmetics giant, rivaled the Fosters in wealth. Marco, the young Chapman son, was well-known. Gilmore hadn't known he was one of Christine's suitors, though he knew the Chapmans and Fosters were close, intending to strengthen their ties through marriage.
"If Marco targets you," Luke warned, "you can't win."
Gilmore thought, We'll see about that. Even top martial artists wouldn't intimidate him, let alone Marco. He possessed supernatural powers, God's Eye, giving him foresight and control. He simply replied calmly, "Okay. I'll be careful."
Twenty minutes later, Luke's Land Rover screeched to a halt at the Palazzo, the new Evergreen Properties development. The parking lot was filled with luxury cars—Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, Ferraris, Mercedes. The development had attracted Oakhaven's elite. Luxurious villas surrounded the lot.
"So many luxury cars," Luke worried. "Only 500 villas, and this much competition…"
Gilmore wasn't concerned; he could find another property.
They entered the bustling sales office, crowded with wealthy-looking people. Dozens of sales staff were overwhelmed. Gilmore tried to get assistance but was dismissed by sales staff who judged him by his appearance. They were more interested in high-volume buyers.
"Snobs," Luke muttered. Even Luke, with his tens of millions, felt dwarfed.
Gilmore realized he'd likely miss out if he waited. He decided to leave.
Then, a familiar figure entered—Christine. Stunning in a black suit, she immediately began assigning tasks to sales staff. Then she found a quiet corner to rest.
Gilmore said to Luke, "Wait here," and approached Christine.
Luke's eyes widened. "What's he doing?"
