Chapter 101
Marlon looked at Gilmore. "What should we do when his men arrive?"
"Just tie me up. When they come, they'll try to kill us. You just have to be more vigilant," Gilmore replied.
Marlon looked doubtful. "But if the Palmer family wants to kill me, surely they'll send their experts. I'll still die; I'm outnumbered."
"Marlon, do you really think I came alone?" An enigmatic smile appeared on Gilmore's face.
Marlon looked at him. "Did you bring experts with you?"
"Of course. They're waiting at the foot of the mountain. The Palmers can send ten experts or more, but I'll make sure none goes back alive," Gilmore said arrogantly.
Marlon's face was full of shock. Then, he thought of something and asked, "Mr. Reed, did Mr. Carter send internal force martial artists to help you?"
Internal force martial artists were considered the world's true powerhouses. They possessed internal mana. When truly powerful practitioners used their internal mana to strengthen their bodies, they became virtually invulnerable. Once such experts activated their internal force, they could overcome almost anything. They could even tear metal apart with their bare hands.
The power of internal force was unfathomable. It was amplified even further with the support of internal mana. Of course, this level of strength was restricted to the most fearsome internal force martial artists at the apex of the field.
But even those just entering the ranks of internal force martial artists were vastly superior to ordinary external force martial artists. External force martial artists were far stronger and faster than ordinary people, but they were no match for internal force martial artists due to their lack of internal mana. Without internal mana, they could not make their bodies invulnerable or strong enough to crush metal cars with their bare hands.
Hearing Gilmore say he would kill Wallace's ten or more experts, Marlon mistakenly assumed Denton had sent an internal force martial artist to assist him. Naturally, Gilmore hadn't asked the Carters for help; he was fabricating the story. He had no choice but to continue his lie. He said, "Yeah, so you can stop worrying. There'll be an internal force martial artist secretly protecting me."
Marlon had a sudden epiphany. No wonder he hadn't heard anyone outside, even with his ears perked. Gilmore was being protected by an internal force martial artist. Once an internal force martial artist suppressed their aura, even an external force martial artist like Marlon wouldn't be able to detect their presence.
Since Gilmore had the help of an internal force martial artist, Marlon had nothing to fear. He was also glad he hadn't attacked Gilmore earlier; otherwise, he would probably be dead.
Marlon's expression eased. He picked up the teapot and filled Gilmore's glass. "Mr. Reed, have some wine!"
Gilmore nodded. He picked up his glass and leisurely drank the wine like a guest. He knew he had convinced Marlon he had come to save him. To be fair, Gilmore had found Marlon's hiding place and learned of Wallace's plan to kill him thanks to his God's Eye. That's why he could discuss past and future events, winning Marlon's trust.
After finishing his tea, Gilmore said, "You have ropes here, right? Tie me up!"
Marlon found a rope in the villa and tied Gilmore's hands, but not too tightly. This way, Gilmore could quickly untie himself if necessary. After tying Gilmore's hands, they sat on the sofa and waited.
Time passed. Roughly forty minutes later, a vehicle drove into the villa's compound. Marlon's doubts deepened as he heard several more cars arrive. Even if the Palmer family wanted to confirm Gilmore's capture, they didn't need to send so many people.
After a while, ten men in black suits walked in. They were tall, strong, with wide foreheads and sharp eyes; their faces were grim. Their leader, a man in his forties with a stern expression, looked at Gilmore and Marlon.
Immediately, Marlon said, "Mr. McEvoy, you're here."
Marlon was polite to the man he knew as Thomas McEvoy. McEvoy's strength was second only to Emerson and the housekeeper, Cooper Merrell. He was a very powerful external force martial artist in the Palmers' employ. Marlon was surprised the Palmer family would send someone so strong just to confirm Gilmore's capture. Furthermore, the other nine men were also external force martial artists, though seemingly weaker than Thomas. The Palmer family had sent nearly all their external force martial artists.
Naturally, Marlon didn't think they were only here to return Gilmore to the Palmer residence. It was obvious they had come to kill them both.
Thomas ignored Marlon's greeting. He looked coldly at him and said, "Mr. Palmer sent me to retrieve Gilmore. We're taking him now."
Marlon glanced at Gilmore, who remained silent, giving no hints. So, Marlon said to Thomas, "Mr. McEvoy, please proceed."
Thomas gestured to two men, who quickly stepped forward and grabbed the tied-up Gilmore from the sofa.
Gilmore pretended to struggle, shouting, "What do you want? Kidnapping is against the law!"
"Shut him up! He's too noisy!" Thomas said angrily.
A man in a black suit quickly taped Gilmore's mouth shut. Two men escorted Gilmore to the side.
Thomas didn't leave. He waved his right hand and said, "Kill Marlon!"
"Yes, boss!" Eight external force martial artists moved in unison, surrounding Marlon.
Marlon's eyes shone with a sharp light. His body emitted a powerful aura. He was surprised Gilmore's prediction was correct: the Palmer family wanted to silence him after learning of Gilmore's capture. How ruthless!
Marlon looked sharply at Thomas and asked, "Mr. McEvoy, what is this? Aren't we on the same side?"
Thomas sneered. "We were, but that was before I arrived and confirmed you'd captured Gilmore. From this moment on, you're nothing more than a pawn, and your only destination is death."
"Thomas! Mr. Palmer said he'd send me—"
A mocking expression appeared on Thomas's face. "Mr. Palmer thinks you're better off in heaven. Only then will the Palmer family feel truly at ease. As for Marco… we think he's better off fed to the sharks."
Finally, he added, "All right, it's time for you to meet your maker. Men, kill him!"
Following Thomas's order, the eight experts launched a lightning-fast attack.
