Chapter 128
Murdoch handed a camera to Mike, saying, "Mr. Brook, this is the miniature camera Mr. Field secretly installed in his study. It contains evidence of Clinton's criminal behavior."
Mike took the camera and gave it to a nearby police officer. "Check the contents immediately," he instructed. The officer took the camera, retrieved a computer, placed it on the desk, and began reviewing the video footage.
Suddenly, someone said, "Mr. Brook, I have evidence of Clinton admitting he tried to murder Mr. Field."
All eyes turned to the speaker—Gilmore. He approached Mike and played a mobile phone video showing Clinton confessing his intent to kill Graham.
"Mr. Brook, is this admissible evidence?" Gilmore asked.
Mike replied, "It's usable, but we need further evidence to prove he harmed Mr. Field."
Clinton, still on the ground, saw Gilmore's incriminating video and glared at him, but the numerous officers present prevented any retaliation.
The officer examining the miniature camera soon announced, "Mr. Brook, the camera has the evidence!"
Mike immediately asked for a replay. Upon seeing the footage, Gilmore knew Clinton's fate was sealed.
After reviving Graham at the hospital, they didn't go directly to the company before the board meeting. Instead, on Graham's advice, they returned to the Field family manor. Graham recalled the secret miniature camera he'd installed in his study to protect important documents. He hadn't anticipated its crucial role in proving Clinton's guilt.
Following the discovery of the evidence, Graham, Gilmore, and Helene arrived at Horizon Group via the chairman's private helicopter. The helicopter landed on the company roof, allowing them to attend the meeting on time and avoid Clive and the other bodyguards at the gate.
After Gilmore recounted the events, Mike watched the video. He then addressed Clinton: "Clinton Field, you're under arrest for attempted murder. Come with us to the police station for further investigation."
Clinton's face drained of color as he collapsed to the ground. He pleaded with Graham, "Dad, help me! I don't want to go to jail!"
Graham scoffed. "I don't have a son like you. I only have one daughter, Helene." Turning to Mike, he said, "Take him away. He's no longer my son. Sentence him as you see fit."
Mike nodded. "Don't worry, Mr. Field. We will proceed according to the law." He signaled to two officers, who handcuffed and removed Clinton.
"Mr. Field, goodbye," Mike said as he left.
"Take care," Graham replied, watching them go.
Several senior executives, previously loyal to Clinton, were shocked and terrified. They had mistakenly aligned themselves with the soon-to-be-convicted chairman and now feared Helene's retribution for their past actions in removing her as vice president.
One executive, bowing deeply to Helene, confessed, "Miss Field, I was deceived and threatened by Clinton. I had no choice but to agree to your removal. Please forgive me."
The others followed suit, expressing their remorse.
Helene responded coldly, "I accept your apology, but any further transgression will result in your dismissal."
Relieved, the executives expressed their gratitude.
"The meeting is adjourned," Helene declared. The executives departed, leaving only Graham, Helene, Gilmore, Murdoch, and ten shareholders.
Gilmore, having fulfilled his role, announced his departure. Graham thanked him profusely for saving the family and company. Helene saw Gilmore off.
In the corridor, Helene expressed her gratitude to Gilmore for preventing Clinton from ruining her. She then surprised him with an invitation to dinner at her home, at her father's suggestion.
