Chapter 156
“Sir, that doesn’t make sense! Elaine clearly entered this room,” the security manager said, looking baffled as he reported to Tobias.
Tobias replied icily, “Elaine escaped because we overlooked something.”
He thought, Damn it! As long as she’s still at Oakhaven University of Foreign Languages, she won’t escape me, though she got lucky today!
Tobias looked at the security manager. “Check the surveillance footage again. Find out how she escaped!” he commanded. “Also, get all the details about the guest in Room 8.”
Tobias suspected the guest had helped Elaine escape. He vowed that if he discovered the guest's involvement, he wouldn't let him go.
“Yes, sir. I’ll inform you of the results tomorrow after our investigation,” the security manager replied promptly.
Tobias nodded. “Let’s go!” he ordered his bodyguards, and left, followed by several angry-looking bodyguards. The security manager surveyed the room before leaving and closing the door behind him.
On the rooftop, Gilmore and Elaine watched a beautiful meteor shower. The lustrous shooting stars were as wondrous as life, as beautiful as romance—fleeting, yet unforgettable. Finally, they vanished into the night sky, leaving a calm, blue expanse.
Elaine was exhilarated. This was probably her first meteor shower, and she'd met Gilmore, her hero, that night. Every girl dreams of a romantic encounter; Elaine believed destiny had brought them together.
Just then, Gilmore’s cell phone rang. It was his sister.
At the sight of Elaine’s curious expression, Gilmore said, “It’s my sister.”
Elaine was relieved. Her pure, flawless appearance and bright eyes radiated innocence. Gilmore wondered how she’d react if she knew about his four other girlfriends, but dismissed the thought. He answered the call. “Everly, did you see the meteor shower?”
“Gilmore, I did! Why aren’t you back yet?” Everly asked regretfully.
“I saw it too,” he replied.
“Oh, good! That’s a relief,” Everly sighed. “Well, I’m hanging up.”
Gilmore pocketed his phone and looked at Elaine. “Let’s go back to the hotel room.”
Worriedly, she asked, “Gilmore, do you think Tobias and his bodyguards are still there?”
“No. Since they didn’t find anyone, they’ll assume we escaped and won’t be waiting,” he replied.
Relieved, she listened as he continued, "We have two options: go down the stairs, or I can use a magic trick to take you back to the room." He looked at her intently.
She recalled Gilmore’s previous magic trick—closing her eyes only to open them atop a building. “I want you to do the magic trick,” she said.
He nodded. “It’s safer. Tobias’s men would spot you on the surveillance footage if we go down the stairs.”
“Okay, let’s do magic. Do I need to close my eyes?”
“Most girls are timid, so it’s best. My magic is both astonishing and terrifying!” he said seriously.
She nodded and closed her eyes, but decided to peek during the trick. She felt his arm around her waist; this time, she felt no shyness, only sweetness.
In an instant, he leaped from the rooftop, his arm still around her, flying like a goshawk. They descended gracefully, like leaves on a breeze, their hair and clothes fluttering. Looking like a match made in heaven.
Feeling the wind, Elaine secretly opened her eyes. The sight of the building’s glass wall rushing upward as she fell shocked her. Her eyes flew open. She was still falling. Is this any different from jumping off a building? she wondered. The Langford Tower was the tallest in Oakhaven; a fall from this height would leave no one intact. She hadn't expected Gilmore's "magic" to involve jumping from the highest building!
Looking down, she was terrified, dizzy from the hundreds of meters of altitude. She fainted from fear.
Later, she felt warmth on her lips, breaths being puffed into her mouth. She regained consciousness to find someone performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; they stopped as soon as she started breathing.
Gilmore grumbled, “Women are troublesome! I told her not to open her eyes, but she did. She had no idea she’d faint.”
Hearing him, she realized he’d given her mouth-to-mouth. Her heart pounded; she felt shy, yet sweetly overwhelmed. She was safe, resting on a hotel room mattress. She’d fallen from a building, fainted, and now was back—how?
Her curiosity piqued, she was about to ask when she felt Gilmore’s palms on her chest, apparently starting CPR. She blushed. He was indeed attempting CPR.
Gilmore felt the soft, supple mounds of her breasts. He was pleasantly surprised by their fullness.
The door opened, revealing Gerald and Everly. They saw the couple, their gazes falling upon Gilmore's hands and their position. Rolling their eyes, Gerald said, “Everly, don’t disturb your brother. Let’s go.”
Everly nodded robotically. “Yes, we should leave now, Gerald!” They closed the door behind them as they swiftly left.
