Chapter 165
The Rumor of the King's Treasure Map in Oakhaven
Tobias was shocked. He knew the rumor about the King's Treasure Map. A mysterious family had guarded a secret related to the King's Treasure for generations. Whoever obtained the map from this family would gain countless treasures. Consequently, all the powerful clans and sects in Eldoria sought the family and the map. The family was hunted and killed, leaving only one survivor, who fled. News reached Oakhaven that he had arrived, drawing many people, but he vanished. Eventually, everyone left.
Tobias had heard this rumor from his grandfather, Norman. When Benjamin mentioned the King's Treasure, Tobias was surprised. He wondered if Benjamin's secret involved the King's Treasure. He calmed himself and looked at Benjamin.
"Benjamin, why are you suddenly talking about the King's Treasure?"
"Because the big secret I want to tell you is related to the King's Treasure Map," Benjamin said, staring intently at Tobias.
Tobias felt his heart race. He knew it!
"Benjamin, do you know where the King's Treasure Map is?" Tobias asked cautiously.
"Of course," Benjamin replied.
"Where?"
"With the Carter family, in Denton's hands!"
Tobias frowned. "Rumor has it that only one person knew about the King's Treasure Map—the sole survivor."
"How did it end up in Denton's hands?"
"Tobias," Benjamin said, "I don't know if your grandfather told you this, but thirty to forty years ago, a murderous devil came to Oakhaven and massacred many people. Denton killed him."
Tobias recalled, "Yes, I have."
"This devil was highly skilled. Oakhaven's best warriors fought him, suffering heavy casualties. Denton fought him for a day and night in the deep mountains before killing him. This made Denton Oakhaven's greatest hero. But, Tobias, you won't guess who this 'devil' really was," Benjamin sneered.
"What? He wasn't a devil? He was the only person who knew about the King's Treasure Map?" Tobias exclaimed.
"Yes. He came to Oakhaven, hid himself well, and evaded discovery. He rented a house from Denton and befriended him. Denton, being clever, quickly discovered the truth. The secret keeper, however, noticed and escaped during the night. Denton, prepared, accused him of being a demon and hunted him down with skilled fighters. He killed him and took the map."
Tobias remained skeptical. "How do you know all this?"
"My grandfather witnessed it," Benjamin said. "He was a martial arts expert under Denton and always by his side. He knew about Denton's secret actions. Denton let the other masters attack first. He knew the map keeper was highly skilled. If Denton attacked first, he risked failure or death. Therefore, the masters suffered heavy casualties, and the map keeper was seriously injured. Denton then easily killed him and took the map, becoming a hero. My grandfather, having remained passive, survived and knew the truth. He’s dead now, so there are no other witnesses. I can't prove it, but the treasure map is with Denton and the Carter family!"
Chapter 165 (continued)
Tobias was shocked and silent. Mr. Emerson (presumably Benjamin’s grandfather) was dead, so Benjamin's story couldn't be confirmed. However, many details matched what his grandfather, Norman, had told him. Norman had always been puzzled by Denton's seemingly impossible victory and the lack of proof of the "devil's" crimes beyond Denton's word. He suspected a hidden secret.
Tobias seemed to have found the truth. He said to Benjamin, "I've noted what you said. I'll stay at the hotel. I need to make a call."
This was crucial. He needed to call his grandfather.
Benjamin smiled. "Please do, Tobias!"
Tobias nodded and left.
