Chapter 61
A villa stood at 28 Circus Street, belonging to Lilian Morales's family. It had been largely unoccupied since Lilian left for college in Oakhaven and her father became mayor. The family's visits could be counted on one hand each year. Despite its emptiness, relatives cleaned the villa regularly, eliminating the need for Lilian to clean upon her return from Oakhaven.
A Mercedes pulled into the villa's courtyard, depositing Gilmore Reed and Lilian Morales. Gilmore admired the colorful flowers and lush, wall-climbing trees. The moon bathed the scene in a tranquil glow, creating a picturesque setting. Under the moonlight, Lilian and Gilmore stood together, enveloped in a sweet, romantic atmosphere.
Gilmore gazed at Lilian's face. "Why didn't you come inside when you visited a few days ago?" he asked, his eyes fixed on hers.
Lilian lowered her head, whispering, "Didn't you say you had a girlfriend?"
Gilmore understood. "Then why did you go, knowing I had a girlfriend?" he teased.
"I wasn't there for you. I was admiring the plum blossoms," she blushed, offering a hasty explanation.
"Plum blossoms in August? I've never heard of that," he smirked mischievously.
Her excuse failing, she stamped her foot, feigning annoyance. "I don't want to talk to you. You're annoying!" She headed for the gate, retrieving her key. She opened the door and started inside.
As she was about to shut Gilmore out, he said, "I broke up with Tiffany."
She paused, turned, and re-entered the house. A victorious smile played on Gilmore's lips. He wouldn't have been allowed in otherwise. He followed her, closing the door behind him.

Lilian placed her handbag on the living room sofa, poured two glasses of water, and offered one to Gilmore. "Have a seat."
They sat on the sofa. "Why did you break up with her? Didn't you say you loved her?" Lilian asked casually, taking a sip of water. She was merely confirming the breakup; otherwise, she wouldn't date him. Gilmore knew she was probing his feelings.
"The only reason I dated her is that I thought you were out of my league," he confessed.
Surprise flickered across her face. She had known of his high school crush, but he'd kept it hidden due to feelings of inferiority stemming from his family's modest circumstances. She'd often encouraged him to relax about it. Later, at university, she'd tried to advance their relationship, but he'd become involved with Tiffany. She'd assumed he'd transferred his affections. Now, she realized his relationship with Tiffany stemmed from a sense of unworthiness.
He continued, "I mean, you’re the most beautiful girl in Film Academy, a rising star, and your father is the mayor of Oakhaven. And I’m just a poor boy. We live in different worlds. You have a promising future, and I didn't want to hold you back." A resigned affection crossed his eyes.
She was deeply surprised. He'd loved her all along, sacrificing their relationship to protect her future. Tears welled in her eyes as she took his hand. "Please don't let me go. I won't be truly happy, even as the most famous star, without you."
Gilmore nodded. "I won't be silly anymore. I promise to protect you and make you happy forever."
She leaned her head on his shoulder, smiling blissfully. "Remember this. You'll suffer if you break your word."
He kissed her forehead. "I'll keep my promise." It was her first kiss, and her face flushed crimson.

Despite her shyness, she was overjoyed that they'd overcome their misunderstanding and found each other. Suddenly, car noises approached. Gilmore's eyes narrowed; through his "God's Eye" (presumably some form of surveillance), he saw Ian and Dave Thompson at the Milky Way Hotel.
A vicious glint entered his eyes. "It's them," he muttered. "Lilian, it's late. Take a shower and go to bed."
Lilian nodded. "I'll prepare the guest room for you."
"Since we're together, can I sleep with you?" Gilmore asked boldly.
Lilian glared. "Absolutely not. You'll have to marry me first."
"What? Really? That will take a long time" he protested.
"No. You can take it back if you can't manage it," she said firmly, grabbing her bag and heading upstairs, showing little interest in his further pleas.
Gilmore smirked, watching her go. "I can't wait that long. I have to sleep with her tonight," he thought. Then he heard another car pull up outside. Someone approached the villa, and a hostile look crossed his face.
