Chapter 47

Clica leaned closer to Eleanor. “This, Ms. Eleanor, how are we supposed to solve this? Mr. W doesn’t actually expect us to pay out of pocket to cover their debt, does he?”

“Unless he’s lining his mist…” Cleaner muttered, leaning back in the couch and staring at the ceiling.

Elira pouted. “Bradford is about to go bankrupt and liquidate. Where would they even get a luncheon million to pay Barrsom Finance?”

“What chapter are we on? We’re the ones asking for a favor. Let me think about it.”

Mr. W is really asking the impossible of you.”

Eleanor ended up spending the entire afternoon deep in thought. She wasn’t just relying on her own ideas; she also looked up classic case studies and analyzed everything from multiple perspectives.

After brainstorming with her for the entire afternoon, Thira couldn’t hold out any longer. “Ms. Eleanor, I’m starving! Let’s go eat.”

Now that she mentioned it, Drance realized she was hungry too. “Alright. When do you want to go?”

Eliza immediately chimed in. “Let’s go check out Walden’s night market! I heard the food is amazing!”

Eleanor suddenly remembered that, in her past life, they had gone to the night market, and something bad had happened.

“Tahise against it. What if you run into some drunk guy who won’t leave you alone? What if he keeps asking for your number and insisting on drinking with you? And when you refuse, he starts beating you up? You’d be done for.”

Eliza shrugged. “Huh? There’s no way that will happen, right? We can bring the bodyguards.”

Lance chose to avoid the risk entirely. “Wright markets are the same. There’s nothing special there. I’ll take you to Walden’s most upscale restaurant instead. It’s called The Willow.” Compared to a night market, a critically acclaimed meal was obviously way more tempting.

Eliza nodded eagerly. “Okay!”

On the way there, Eleanor made a phone call.

“Hello. I’d like to ask the patrol officers to pay more attention to the night market tonight. There’s no particular reason. There will be a lot of drunk, burly guys wandering around, making it hard for tourists to eat in peace. It’s just in case, you know? Thank you.”

Eliza found Eleanor’s actions baffling.

At the restaurant, after ordering their food, they waited for the dishes. Eliza scrolled through her phone absentmindedly until she suddenly saw a newly uploaded video, and her eyes widened.

“Ms. Elrance! Mr. Eleanor!”

Eleanor was jotting down ideas on her tablet, not looking up. “Tranh?”

Ela was practically bouncing with excitement. “Are you psychic?”

Puzzled, Eleanor scratched her forehead. “Huh?”

Eliza quickly handed her phone over. “Look! There really were some drunk men harassing female tourists at the night market. Luckily, the patrol officers were right there and pinned them down immediately. They even found two knives on them!”

Her chest still shaken, Ela whispered, “That’s terrifying. If the police hadn’t been there, who knows what would’ve happened? Ms. Eleanor, how did you know the night market wasn’t safe?”

Eleanor glanced at her phone and raised an eyebrow. She wasn’t psychic; she was just cheating.

In her past life, they had gone to that night market. Midway through their meal, a group of drunk men had started harassing them. At first, they tried to ignore them, but the men had called for backup and surrounded them.

Luckily, they had brought two bodyguards, who managed to hold the situation until the police arrived. There was no real harm done.

But in her past life, there hadn’t been this many drunks. And there definitely hadn’t been knives.

That seemed… deliberate.

Things were changing again.

Eleanor fell into deep thought. Since she was rebooted, a lot of events hadn’t matched what had happened in her past life. Why was that? If things kept shifting like this, would it eventually turn against her?
