Chapter 33

Brynn was speechless. “I have no idea what you’re talking about!”

“Are you saying it wasn’t you?” Randy’s finger jabbed the air in front of Brynn. “Then why did Suncrest send you an invitation and not me? Isn’t this a blatant slap in my face?”

Brynn was slightly surprised; she genuinely hadn’t known about the invitation from Suncrest.

Randy was furious. Brynn wasn’t even considered part of the Everett family anymore, yet she was already doing so well after leaving. And now, she was even one-upping him, practically looking down on him! How could he tolerate this?

“I’m warning you, hand over the invitation right now! Or I’ll fire you!” Randy threatened angrily.

Brynn hadn’t cared about the invitation before, but now… She scoffed. “Fine, go ahead and fire me! But after you do, who knows if Suncrest will still want to work with the Everett Group…”

Brynn gave a disdainful snort, her eyes full of sarcasm. “It’s not my problem.”

“You…” Randy’s finger trembled even more violently. He felt like his heart was about to explode. “You… you’re unbelievable!”

Although he was furious, Randy knew Brynn was right. He couldn’t just fire her out of spite. Who knew if Suncrest would want her for this project, and her alone? Thinking about this, Randy became even angrier.

“Brynn, don’t expect me to make things easy for you!”

Brynn was long immune to Randy’s threats; they didn’t faze her in the slightest. Once she entered her office, she saw the invitation on her desk, just as expected. She picked it up and saw that it was addressed only to her.

“No wonder he’s so pissed,” Brynn chuckled. “Serves him right.”

Setting the invitation aside, Brynn went back to work. A while later, Jenna came in to report on some work matters, but before she could speak, she spotted the invitation on Brynn’s desk. She became excited. “Ms. Everett, is this… is this an invitation from Suncrest?”

“Yeah.” Brynn nodded calmly, but she was also a bit confused. “Although Suncrest is indeed influential in Portmare, it’s just an annual celebration. Is it really that big of a deal?”

“Ms. Everett, haven’t you heard? Not only will all the big shots and entrepreneurs of Portmare be at Suncrest’s annual celebration, but even the President might show up!” Jenna said excitedly. “That’s why everyone’s so thrilled.”

It was the President, after all!

However, in contrast to Jenna’s excitement, Brynn couldn’t help but frown. Could it be that because Dominic reported the Director of the City Planning Department, causing him to lose his position, this President is coming to make trouble? Brynn felt a little uneasy.

“Probably not…” It was hard to say. She wasn’t interested in the President, but thinking that he was her husband’s superior, she felt it would be best to know a little more. With that in mind, Brynn prepared to look up the President, including his photo and basic information. She had just opened her browser when the ringing of her phone interrupted her. She took out her phone and saw that the caller was Maris Everett.

Brynn frowned slightly, about to hang up, but her finger hesitated over the ‘end call’ button. If she hung up, Maris would probably just call again. She might as well see what kind of shamelessness the Everett family could stoop to. Brynn took a deep breath and answered the call.

As expected, as soon as the call connected, Maris said in a commanding tone, “Brynn, if you have any sense, you’ll give your father the invitation from Suncrest right now!”

Hearing Maris’s self-righteous words, Brynn was so angry she almost laughed. It was so… predictable, so unsurprising.

“And in what capacity are you ordering me, Mrs. Everett?” Brynn sneered. “Are you ordering me as the Chairman’s wife, or as my adoptive mother?”

Maris on the other end of the phone was confused. “What do you mean? What difference does it make?”

“Well…” Brynn drawled, leaning back in her chair. “If you’re ordering me as the Chairman’s wife, then I can tell you, it’s not going to happen!”

Hearing this, Maris quickly said, “Then what about as your adoptive mother?”

Brynn’s lips curled up, her face full of mockery. “Of course, it’s… in your dreams!”

Maris finally understood; Brynn was clearly toying with her. She was instantly enraged. “How can you be so ungrateful! The Everett family raised you, and this is how you repay us? Besides, you only got that invitation because of the Everett Group’s project. What’s there to be so smug about!”

Hearing Maris’s words, Brynn was amused. “Oh, you’re right. I only got an invitation that you guys couldn’t get your hands on no matter how hard you tried. It’s really nothing to be proud of.”

Brynn’s voice was full of sarcasm, causing Maris’s blood pressure to spike. This… this ungrateful child! She was infuriating!
