Chapter 44
Marcel leaned closer to Brynn’s work. The more he looked, the more his eyes lit up. As soon as Brynn finished the last stitch, he snatched it up and examined it like it was a hidden treasure. “Wow, this is really Byzantine Goldwork!”
Seeing Marcel so excited, everyone around him started asking, “Master Lefevre, what’s Byzantine Goldwork?” The crowd wondered why Marcel was so enthralled.
“Byzantine Goldwork was this super fancy embroidery technique used by royalty back in the day!” Marcel explained excitedly. “It uses tight gold thread and special stitches. It’s super rare and demanding. I never thought I’d see it here!” As he spoke, Marcel stared at the embroidery in his hands like he was in a trance.
When everyone heard this, they all turned to Brynn, their jaws dropping. They couldn’t believe she had this kind of skill.
“Wow, all of Ms. Vera Stitch’s work uses Byzantine Goldwork too!” Gianna, who had a knack for spotting details, noticed the connection and blurted out in surprise.
Marcel didn’t really follow social media, so he had no idea who Ms. Vera Stitch was. But when he saw her work on Gianna’s phone, he couldn’t help but say, “These pieces are identical to Ms. Everett’s embroidery.” As he spoke, his gaze on Brynn got even more intense. This girl was seriously talented.
When everyone heard Marcel’s words, they all went wild. They started showering Brynn with praise and exclamations.
Someone exclaimed, “Whoa, who would have thought? The fake heiress who got kicked out of the Everett family is actually the famous Ms. Vera Stitch!”
Another one chimed in, “Ms. Vera Stitch’s work goes for millions each. How could the Everetts say she only wore Lucrèce Couture gowns because she embezzled money?”
Someone else sneered, “The Everetts raised Brynn for over twenty years and had no idea their adopted daughter was Ms. Vera Stitch. They even kicked her out. It’s just ridiculous!”
Randy and Maris felt totally humiliated, listening to all the mocking comments around them. They wished they could just disappear. They never imagined Brynn had this kind of skill.
Kylie, seeing Brynn steal the spotlight again, was consumed by jealousy. She wanted to argue back, but Chase, standing beside her, didn’t give her the chance. He grabbed her arm and scolded in a low voice, “Enough! If you don’t understand anything, don’t speak out of turn!”
Kylie felt super wronged, but seeing that Chase was angry, she had no choice but to keep quiet.
Declan, who’d been watching from the side, shook his head in disbelief. “Damn, Brynn is something else,” he muttered to himself. “She’s got this fire in her. No one messes with her and gets away with it.” Looking at the Everetts who had been causing trouble for Brynn, as well as Chase, Declan rolled his eyes. It seemed he couldn’t kick these fools out just yet. Otherwise, the drama wouldn’t be as interesting.
The farce finally ended when Marcel and Declan personally escorted Brynn into the banquet hall.
After everyone else had gone in, Randy turned to Kylie with a stern face and scolded her sharply, “It’s all your fault. You spoke nonsense without even understanding the situation, making us a laughingstock.”
Hearing her father’s accusation, Kylie looked hurt and said, “Dad, I was just worried that Brynn might be wearing a fake gown and using a fake invitation, which would embarrass our family…”
“Humph, do you really think I don’t know what you’re up to?” Randy snorted, not believing a word Kylie said.
But Maris believed her daughter. She hugged Kylie sympathetically and said indignantly, “Brynn is really going too far! She has such a close relationship with Declan but won’t even get us an invitation. She’s so ungrateful.”
Hearing this, Randy also became angry. “Indeed, that’s not acceptable. But did you have no idea that Brynn is Ms. Vera Stitch?” He looked at Maris, frowning in confusion.
Maris shook her head. “How would I know? But Brynn used to send me handmade embroidered scarves every now and then. I thought embroidery was too old-fashioned, so I never wore them.” Maris suddenly realized that Brynn had indeed given her many gifts in the past, but she had never paid attention to them. Her expression became a bit complicated.
