Chapter 57
“Isn’t it a doctor’s duty to heal? Even if they haven’t paid the bill yet, no doctor should just throw a patient out of the ward, right?” The cool female voice cut through the crowd, reaching everyone’s ears.
The doctor’s eyes lit up as he saw a pretty woman walking toward him.
“How much do they owe? I’ll cover it,” Brynn said coldly, stepping in front of Paul and Brenda.
Wow, she’s a looker, the doctor thought to himself, his eyes lingering on Brynn.
“Sure, sure. Standing here in the hallway isn’t ideal for a chat,” he said with a lecherous grin. “What are you waiting for? Get the patient back inside. We don’t want him catching a cold.”
The security guard, who had been scolded, dared not complain and quietly moved Paul back into the ward.
“Scatter! You’re blocking the way. Who’s going to be responsible for that?” the doctor shouted at the onlookers.
Once the crowd had mostly dispersed, the doctor walked into the ward and closed the door behind him. He had long heard that this poor couple had a beautiful daughter, but she had never visited them in the hospital before. Now it seemed that the pretty woman in front of him was their daughter. It was a real beauty from an ordinary family.
“Miss Blaze, right? I’m not saying I can’t continue treating your father’s illness, but…” The doctor leaned in closer to Brynn, his tone suggestive. “You’ll have to spend the night with me.”
Brynn’s eyebrows furrowed instantly, and she took two steps back.
Seeing this, Brenda shouted in anger, “You pervert! What are you talking about? And she’s not my daughter. She’s just a kind-hearted passerby!”
Fearing that Brynn would be taken advantage of, Brenda quickly tried to pull her away. “Miss, you should leave. Don’t get involved in our mess.”
The doctor wasn’t about to let this potential catch slip away. He blocked the door, stopping Brynn from leaving. “Who are you trying to fool? Of course, she is your daughter. Do you think I can’t tell?”
The two did look somewhat similar.
“Girl, I’m not tricking you. Spend one night with me, and I’ll let you pay the bill whenever you want. I won’t rush you,” the doctor said with a lecherous grin, his eyes locked on Brynn. “Otherwise, your dad might as well just wait to die!”
Brynn felt utterly disgusted and couldn’t help but laugh in anger, “You really are…”
“What’s wrong with you, Paul?” Brenda’s terrified scream interrupted their standoff.
Brynn turned around and saw Paul, lying in the hospital bed, clutching his chest in agony. Brynn was startled and quickly forgot about the despicable doctor. She rushed to check on Paul’s condition. The more she looked, the more her face turned pale. “He’s having a heart attack,” she said.
As soon as she finished speaking, the machines beside him started beeping urgently. The ECG was almost a flat line.
“What are you waiting for? Save him now!” Brynn shouted at the doctor. “Do you want him to die right here?”
The doctor, however, looked indifferent. “You haven’t paid the full medical bill. Why should I care if he lives or dies?”
Hearing this, Brynn was angry. “You…”
“Doctor, please save my husband!” Brenda, forgetting her earlier hesitation, knelt down in front of him. “I’ll definitely pay the medical bill later.”
“Who cares about your money?” The doctor kicked Brenda and his gaze fell back on Brynn. “This illness can only be cured by me. You’d better just give in,” the doctor threatened. “Otherwise, you’ll have to watch your dad die right in front of you.”
