Chapter 60
Dr. Creed, leaning against the door, nearly burst out laughing at Brynn’s words. He couldn’t help but sneer sarcastically. “Tsk, tsk. Talking big is easy—I could say that with just one needle, I could lift the entire planet. Would you believe me?”
Brynn frowned and didn’t say a word. This guy was not only insufferable but also ridiculously petty.
To be fair, it wasn’t just Dr. Creed who doubted her. Even Dr. Caldwell, who respected her status, looked hesitant, his face filled with uncertainty. Medical expertise had nothing to do with one’s social standing. Even he wouldn’t dare gamble with a patient’s life.
Turning to Brenda, he lowered his voice and asked, “Ma’am, what do you think?”
Everyone’s gaze shifted to Brenda, and even Brynn felt a little anxious. Earlier, Brenda had agreed to let her try, but that was when Dr. Caldwell was still available to perform the surgery. This was an entirely different situation now.
“I agree.”
To everyone’s surprise, Brenda barely hesitated before nodding at Brynn. Not only that, but she also reached out, gently holding Brynn’s hands as she said in a warm voice, “Just do your best. No matter what happens in the end, don’t burden yourself.”
Feeling the warmth of her hands, Brynn’s heart was deeply moved. This kind of trust weighed heavy—yet it also filled her with resolve. She gripped Brenda’s hands in return, her voice steady and firm. “Don’t worry. I will bring him back.”
Brenda’s eyes reddened slightly. It was a heartfelt moment. But, of course, someone just had to ruin it.
Dr. Creed scoffed loudly. “Such big words! You’re saying you’ll definitely save him? Do you think you’re Lister reborn? Even Lister wouldn’t dare guarantee a 100% success rate for his surgeries!”
Brynn had enough. Without hesitation, she turned and kicked Dr. Creed right in the leg! Brenda, equally furious, followed up with a kick of her own. For a second, the two women stared at each other in mutual surprise—then, as if they had a tacit understanding, they smirked and shouted in unison, “Get lost!”
With Dr. Creed properly put in his place, Dr. Caldwell wasted no time ordering the surgical team to prepare Paul for the operating room. Brynn quickly changed into sterile scrubs. Just before she stepped inside, Brenda gave her an encouraging nod. Brynn smiled in return, then turned around and stepped into the OR without hesitation. This surgery had only one outcome—success. Failure was not an option.
At that moment, Dominic had just finished an interview when he received a call from one of his men. After listening to the full report, his eyes narrowed. “A mere doctor dares to act so arrogantly? It seems like the hospitals in Portmare need a serious overhaul.” His voice was calm, but his gaze was cold. He had arranged for people to protect Brynn in secret, worried she might face trouble while he was away. Yet he had only been gone two days, and already, something like this had happened.
“Mr. President, how do you want to handle this?”
Dominic thought for a moment. “No rush. Keep watching from the shadows and ensure her safety at all costs. Also, send in a team of specialists. If anything goes wrong during the surgery, they are to step in immediately.”
“Yes, sir.”
