Chapter 72
Chase was in a terrible state after fleeing the hospital. Not only was his custom-tailored suit covered in footprints, but he had even lost a shoe. He looked absolutely pathetic. But what angered him even more was that Brynn's so-called husband had actually managed to resolve the situation. “Hah, just got lucky. Does he really think he’s someone important now?” Chase cursed under his breath.
Right now, though, the priority was damage control—both the online backlash and Brynn’s impression of him. With that in mind, Chase quickly changed into a fresh outfit, tidied himself up, and recorded a video, which he then uploaded online.
“…I sincerely apologize for what happened. I truly lost my mind for a moment.”
In the video, Chase was once again dressed in an immaculate high-end suit, looking every bit the refined gentleman. “Brynn, I did what I did because I like you too much. Please, can you give me another chance? Forgive me,” he pleaded earnestly. “I really know I was wrong.”
His heartfelt confession immediately turned the tide of public opinion. While some people still criticized him, a large portion of netizens were beginning to soften toward him. Some were even romanticizing the situation.
Kylie, who had been keeping a close eye on the online buzz, naturally saw the video Chase had posted. Seeing him openly trying to reconcile with Brynn, and reading the comments that followed, she was so furious she nearly ground her teeth to dust. Why was it that something she had schemed and fought so hard for could so easily fall into Brynn’s lap? If they had never been switched at birth, Chase should have fallen for her instead!
‘No, if this goes on, my position as Mrs. Johnson will be untenable…’ she pondered. Panicked, Kylie put down her phone and began pacing anxiously around the room. But how could she win Chase back? Right now, his entire focus was on Brynn. Even though she was carrying his child, he still didn’t care in the slightest! If she wanted to secure her position, she would have to take a different approach.
Chapter 72
Portmare, The Johnson Residence.
In the spacious, well-lit living room, Kylie sat upright with a carefully composed expression and a poised smile. Sitting across from her, Eleanor set down her teacup and spoke in a calm, detached tone. “What brings you here today?”
“Mrs. Johnson, I’m pregnant.” Kylie got straight to the point, watching Eleanor’s expression closely for a reaction. Eleanor’s eyes flickered with mild surprise, but she quickly regained her composure. That made Kylie’s heart sink.
“Oh? So you’re here… to ask for recognition?” Eleanor gave her a half-smile, her tone laced with amusement. “You want to marry my son?”
“Yes. I love Chase.” Kylie forced herself to nod, enduring the invisible pressure weighing down on her. “I want to marry him.”
However, Eleanor’s gaze carried a hint of disdain. Sure, Kylie was the true heiress of the Everett family, but Mrs. Johnson still looked down on her. After all, she had grown up in the countryside. No matter how much she tried to mask it, there was always a lingering air of cheapness about her. A woman like this was not worthy of her son.
“Mr. Johnson, I heard that the Johnson family in Eaglemont is looking for the Divine Doctor.” Seeing that Eleanor wasn’t taking her seriously, Kylie gritted her teeth and moved to her backup plan. She had already done her research before coming here—Mr. and Mrs. Johnson had been desperately trying to curry favor with the Johnson family in Eaglemont ever since they had been cast aside.
“And?” Mrs. Johnson raised a brow.
“I assume you and Mr. Johnson are also looking for the Divine Doctor’s whereabouts?” Kylie’s lips curled into a confident smile. “If I can find them, would you consider my marriage to Chase?”
“You?” Eleanor gave her a once-over. She didn’t think Kylie had the ability to track down the Divine Doctor, but if she did… well, it wouldn’t hurt to have another lead. “If you can truly find them, I’ll agree to let you and the child enter the Johnson family.”
Kylie’s eyes lit up with triumph. “Alright, it’s a deal.”
