Chapter 80

Mrs. Johnson stared at Brynn, momentarily dazed, still holding the child tightly in her arms. Kylie, standing off to the side, rolled her eyes when she saw Brynn. “Brynn, why do you have to show up everywhere?”

Seeing that Brynn ignored her and walked toward the grandmother and grandchild, Kylie couldn’t resist a mocking sneer. “Don’t tell me you actually want to save these scammers? Let me warn you: stay out of this. If you get conned, don’t say I didn’t warn you…”

Brynn had no time to waste on Kylie’s provocations. Her full attention was on the little girl. “Lay her down quickly, or she’ll suffocate!”

Hearing this, the old lady finally snapped out of her daze. She wiped her tears, murmured a hurried “thank you” to Brynn, and quickly loosened her grip on the child. Then, without hesitation, she turned to Kylie, lunged at her, and snatched her phone back.

“You old hag—” Kylie cursed at her, but she paid her no mind. Brynn carefully took the child from her and gently laid her flat on the ground.

Mr. Buckman had come out a moment later than Brynn and instinctively lightened his footsteps upon seeing her actions. Brynn had told him not to get involved, but knowing how unreasonable that girl was, he was worried she might cause trouble. So he had followed anyway. He hadn’t expected to witness the Divine Doctor’s apprentice in action!

Brynn, having placed the child properly, immediately began taking her pulse. After that, she frowned and checked the girl’s pupils, limbs, and mouth. Watching her series of precise and skillful movements, Gary’s eyes lit up. That technique—there was no doubt about it. She was highly skilled!

But Kylie, ignorant of medicine, saw Brynn’s serious demeanor and couldn’t help sneering. “What are you pretending for? I get it now—this old hag and this kid are just people you found to set me up, aren’t they?”

As she spoke, she finally noticed Mr. Buckman standing nearby. She quickly stepped forward, trying to slander Brynn. “Mr. Buckman, I have a grudge against her, and she can’t stand to see me doing well. Please don’t let her manipulate you—”

Gary had never met anyone so utterly shameless. This was truly eye-opening! He didn’t want to waste another word on this fraud. He simply shot her a look of disgust and spat out one word—“Get lost!”

Chapter 80

Kylie, humiliated, backed away begrudgingly. Seeing that Brynn still wouldn’t acknowledge her, she became furious. She lunged forward, intending to yank Brynn away.

Smack!

Brynn had already tolerated her interference multiple times, but now she had truly had enough. Without hesitation, she landed a sharp slap across Kylie’s face!

Feeling the stinging burn on her cheek, Kylie stared at Brynn in shock. “You set me up, and now you dare hit me?”

“Set you up? Who do you think you are? Do you really think you’re worth my time?” Brynn’s gaze was icy. Her presence radiated great authority. Even someone as arrogant as Kylie felt momentarily intimidated, unable to utter a word.

“If you don’t want to get slapped again, then shut your mouth!” Brynn turned back to Zoe. “This child has congenital heart disease. You scared her and bumped into her. And now her condition is critical. If anything happens to her, I’ll make sure you pay for it!”

Only then did Kylie belatedly realize—this old woman and the little girl weren’t scammers? If she ended up being blamed for a child’s death, Eleanor would never allow Chase to marry her. Her dream of becoming Mrs. Johnson would be shattered!

Kylie’s face turned deathly pale at the thought. She wanted to urge Brynn to hurry up and save Zoe, but when she met Brynn’s piercing gaze, she didn’t dare say a word. She could only stand off to the side, feeling restless and uneasy.

Kylie had finally shut up, but Brynn’s expression remained grim. She hadn’t been exaggerating earlier. The child’s condition was severe, and there was no time to get her to a hospital!
