Marrying The Supposed Gold Digger (Valerie)

Listen to this chapter:

The salesperson was relentless, employing every tactic to sway Matthew. “Crafted with cutting-edge overseas technology, this frying pan ensures even heating from every angle, bringing out rich flavors and preserving essential nutrients.”

“There’s a limited-time 10% off offer. Plus, buy three or more items and save 20%. Bundle this pan with a steamer and slow cooker, and get three free bottles of olive oil.”

While Matthew struggled with the sales pitch, Valerie’s response was different.

“Why is this suddenly ‘cutting-edge technology’? It’s just a cooking pan,” Valerie commented.

The salesperson faltered. “Well, foreign technology does have advancements.”

Valerie smiled slightly. “Advanced or not, we need something to cook with. A regular frying pan will do. You mentioned a store-wide 20% discount for three items, right? I saw a sign outside about a discounted cooking pot. Shouldn’t that be included?”

Matthew had missed the sign. Prompted by Valerie’s observation, he saw the discreetly placed sign and was impressed by her attentiveness.

Realizing the cooking pot offered little profit, the salesperson quickly claimed it wasn't part of the store-wide offer.

“Then perhaps I’ll check the store next door. They might have a similar discount,” Valerie said casually, feigning a move toward the exit. The hesitant salesperson relented.

“Whoa, hold on!” the salesperson blurted, backpedaling. “Let’s not be hasty. I’m sure we can work something out…”

Valerie, assertive yet graceful, negotiated a better deal and several free kitchen tools. Her approach wasn't just about the lowest price; she chose well-priced, high-quality items, allowing the salesperson some margin.

She soon took control. She walked away with several items at a much lower price than initially quoted, along with numerous freebies.

Matthew, a passive observer until then, found the exchange entertaining. He’d never seen anyone manage a sales situation like Valerie.

Mini’s trunk was too small, so Valerie asked the salesperson for home delivery. The salesperson agreed.

After organizing their kitchen utensils, Valerie and Matthew went to the tableware section. There, they found an exquisite $100 tableware set.

Valerie’s brow furrowed. “I wonder if I can get a discount on these?”

Matthew was astounded. She doesn’t seem worried about causing offense, he thought.

To his amazement, after a quick discussion with the owner, they agreed to a discount.

With their kitchen essentials settled, Valerie convinced Matthew to visit the largest supermarket. He planned to buy seafood, but Valerie filled their cart with fresh meat, produce, seasonings—everything. By the time they finished, Matthew’s backseat was overflowing.

Today, Matthew saw a new side of Valerie. She lived up to her reputation as Arcton Cars’ top salesperson. It explained her reaction to the treadmill and dishwasher prices; she likely would have negotiated much better deals.

It also made him realize she hadn’t tried to use his offer as an excuse for personal spending. Instead, she’d focused on getting the best deals and saving him money.

Valerie happily sorted through her purchases, particularly cherishing the tableware for its cuteness and elegance. She believed beautiful tableware enhanced the dining experience.

Observing her, Matthew wondered if he’d ever truly understood her.
