Chapter 108: Confronting Lu Yao

Xia Yangyang was stunned. Two eggs, which had fallen hard onto the table after hitting Chen Yu's head, remained unbroken. She discovered they were frozen. This was terrifying; it was like being pelted with stones.

"Chen Yu, Chen Yu, are you okay?"

Chen Yu, after touching the back of his head, discovered he was bleeding. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a minor concussion. The doctor deemed the injury serious.

The girl who threw the eggs was taken to the police station. Investigations revealed she was a Chen Yu fan who disliked Xia Yangyang's working relationship with him. The press conference intended to quell rumors had instead become a farce, with media focusing on the "Cinderella" heroine being egged and Chen Yu heroically taking the blow. This unintentionally fueled rumors of an ambiguous relationship between them.

Xia Yangyang, recently discharged from the hospital, now found Chen Yu hospitalized. That evening, Shen Shichuan visited.

"The director plans to suspend production for half a month," Shen Shichuan announced. "You both should rest and recover."

Xia Yangyang's rash should heal within that time, but she was more concerned about the media coverage. She asked Shen Shichuan if they should issue another clarification.

"A scandal isn't necessarily bad," Shen Shichuan reassured her. "It grabs attention. Who in the entertainment industry hasn't had a scandal, real or imagined? This won't cause significant negative impact, so don't worry."

While Shen Shichuan's words made sense, Xia Yangyang remained uneasy. She didn't want to be perceived as having an ambiguous relationship with Chen Yu, and she worried about Gu Qichen's reaction.

"Are your allergies better?" Shen Shichuan asked.

"A little," Xia Yangyang replied.

"Want me to investigate?" Shen Shichuan offered.

Xia Yangyang understood his meaning—Gu Qichen had also suggested the incident was deliberate. "No," she said. "I want to solve this myself."

"Fine," Shen Shichuan replied casually.

Xia Yangyang returned to her A University dormitory. Filming had been suspended due to the incidents involving her and Chen Yu, and many crew members had gone home. However, Lu Yao remained.

Lu Yao, seated at her desk reading a script, showed a flicker of emotion upon seeing Xia Yangyang. "Yangyang, you're back?"

Xia Yangyang nodded, went to her bed, and lifted her pillowcase, as if searching for something.

Lu Yao, feeling guilty but appearing calm, asked, "Yangyang, are you looking for something? Need my help?"

Xia Yangyang held the pillow. "Did you wash my pillowcase?"

Lu Yao had, in fact, washed Xia Yangyang's pillowcase and bedding. After the incident, terrified, she'd placed peanut powder under Xia Yangyang's pillow and washed everything after Xia Yangyang was hospitalized to cover her tracks.

"No, Yangyang, what are you talking about?" Lu Yao denied.

Xia Yangyang stated plainly, "The pillow smells strongly of laundry detergent, but not the kind I use. Lu Yao, did you tamper with my pillow, causing my peanut allergy?"
