Chapter 15: Xia Yangyang and the Unexpected Witness

Xia Yangyang had to arrive early at the film set. She left with Gu Qichen. As they departed, Gu Zhaohan was repairing a flat bicycle tire. Despite summer vacation, Gu Zhaohan attended A University daily; the medical department’s rigorous coursework demanded constant study, even during breaks.

Gu Qichen glanced at Gu Zhaohan and offered, “Xiao Han, take my car. I’m dropping Yangyang off at A University anyway.”

Since repairing his bicycle would take time, Gu Zhaohan accepted. Xia Yangyang sat in the passenger seat, and Gu Zhaohan in the back. Through the rearview mirror, Gu Qichen saw Gu Zhaohan reading a medical textbook throughout the drive. A top student indeed, he thought.

They arrived at A University, and Gu Zhaohan exited first. Before Xia Yangyang could leave, Gu Qichen grabbed her arm.

“What are you doing?” Xia Yangyang asked, surprised.

Gu Qichen pointed to his cheek. Understanding dawned on Xia Yangyang. Her face flushed, and she quickly pecked Gu Qichen's cheek before exiting the car.

“Call when you finish work, and I’ll pick you up,” Gu Qichen said.

“No need. The last scene is at Maple Villa; I’ll go straight home afterward,” Xia Yangyang replied.

Satisfied, Gu Qichen drove away. Only then did Xia Yangyang notice Gu Zhaohan hadn't left. He stood about two meters away—meaning he had witnessed her kiss Gu Qichen.

Embarrassed, Xia Yangyang tried to maintain composure, reminding herself of their aunt-in-law/nephew relationship. She said, “Xiao Han, are your studies really tough lately?”

Even saying “Xiao Han” felt awkward. It sounded so natural coming from Gu Qichen. She watched as Gu Zhaohan frowned, then silently walked into the university. Xia Yangyang regretted her attempt at adult-like behavior; she believed Gu Zhaohan was disgusted by her.

Upon arriving on set, the crew greeted her enthusiastically: “Madam Gu, hello!” Before she could react, she was seated, offered water and a fan, and even received a back massage. “You must be tired, Mrs. Gu,” someone said.

Xia Yangyang laughed, “What’s with all this? Stop it, please.”

Lu Yao explained, “Mr. Gu gave everyone a generous bonus yesterday. We’re showing our appreciation.” Xia Yangyang was surprised; she'd known nothing about the bonus.

“Alright, stop messing around. The director’s arriving; we need to start,” she said.

The crew quickly resumed their positions. Xia Weiwei arrived, looking sullen, and silently dropped her things on the table. Their scene was next, and it was Xia Weiwei's last. The location was Maple Villa.

Xia Weiwei played Chen Lulu, a classmate of the male lead, Kim Shixun, who was in love with him and jealous of his girlfriend, Lin Xiaofan. The scene depicted Kim Shixun’s birthday pool party. Chen Lulu, consumed by jealousy, attempted to push Lin Xiaofan into the pool, but her plan backfired, resulting in her own embarrassing fall.
