Chapter 162: Mr. Gu’s Magnanimity

The Lan Ting Shui Xiang restaurant, built over an artificial lake, featured countless pavilions, terraces, and towers—each an exquisite private room connected by a winding water corridor. From a distance, its bright lights evoked the charm of a Jiangnan water town, enhanced by a touch of luxury.

Chen Yu, heavily intoxicated, clung to Xia Yangyang's shoulder, sobbing, "Little Miss, I can't bear to be without you. Divorce Gu Qichen… come away with me! Let's go to the Eiffel Tower, to the Charles Bridge in Prague, to the most romantic, undiscovered place…" He then began to sing Zeng Yike's "Elope," his soft voice distorted by drink. It was reminiscent of Tengger's rendition of "Invisible Wings."

Chen Yu sat with the director, screenwriter, and other crew members, visibly nervous. Seated opposite Xia Yangyang was Gu Qichen. Despite this, Chen Yu clung to Xia Yangyang, whether genuinely drunk or feigning it. Having worked together for three months, Xia Yangyang and Chen Yu were close friends; he was her childhood playmate, "Brother Yutou." Their shared memories of their mothers and childhood often sparked conversations, particularly poignant given their mothers' deaths, a longing Xia Yangyang deeply felt.

Xia Yangyang said, "You're drunk. Let Xiao Yang take you home."

Leaning on Xia Yangyang, Chen Yu refused, "No, I want kisses, hugs, and to be carried!"

Dead drunk, he rendered Xia Yangyang helpless. She stood, announcing, "I'll take Chen Yu to the lounge to rest. Xiao Yang will fetch him later."

She helped Chen Yu up and left. Watching them go, Gu Qichen's eyes narrowed. The others held their breath; was Chen Yu challenging Mr. Gu? They anticipated a forceful removal.

Unexpectedly, Mr. Gu asked a nearby waiter, "Do you have a hangover cure tea?"

"Yes," the waiter replied.

A collective sigh of relief swept the table.

A man of stature, his magnanimity was unparalleled. His wife being pursued by another man, he instead concerned himself with the man's well-being.

Gu Qichen inquired, "What kinds of hangover cure tea do you have?"

"Ginger, Muscat, Pu-erh, and chrysanthemum tea. Which would you prefer, sir?"

Calmly, Gu Qichen said, "Make a pot of Kuding and Huanglian tea. Our friend has unique tastes; ordinary tea won't suffice. Plenty of Huanglian—the more bitter, the better."

The waiter looked bewildered; no guest had ever made such a request. Nevertheless, he prepared the tea.

The others were relieved. This was the Mr. Gu they knew. They felt deep sympathy for Chen Yu, the epitome of "asking for trouble."

Xia Yangyang returned shortly, coinciding with the waiter's arrival bearing a pot of extremely bitter Kuding and Huanglian tea.

Curious, Xia Yangyang asked, "What's this?"

With a gentle smile, Gu Qichen replied, "The hangover cure tea I ordered for Chen Yu. He'll feel better after drinking it."

Xia Yangyang exclaimed, "You're so thoughtful!" She'd expected anger.

Gu Qichen smiled faintly, "Your friends are my friends." He instructed the waiter, "Take this to the lounge. Make sure he drinks it all."

Touched, Xia Yangyang said, "Husband, you're truly amazing."

The crowd was speechless. Miss Xia, it seemed, didn't fully understand her husband…
