Chapter 19: Venting Anger
Xia Yangyang followed Gu Qichen into his office. Once inside, she said, "Actually, I don't think firing Lin Yuanyuan was right. Even though she made things difficult for me, it didn't necessarily warrant her resignation. Plus, the Lin family is influential"
Gu Qichen interrupted, "I just want to ask you one thing: Was it satisfying to see her fired?"
Xia Yangyang hesitated, then said, "Yes!"
Gu Qichen chuckled, ruffling her hair. "Well, that's all I needed to hear. This was a warning to others. They think they can bully my wife? Let's see who dares to trouble you again."
He spoke casually, but Xia Yangyang felt enveloped in happiness. She hugged him, saying, "Husband, you're spoiling me."
He turned, cupped her face, and kissed her forehead. "If spoiling you makes me happy, then so be it."
As they planned a celebration, Xia Yangyang received a call from Gu Mingzhu. Her grandfather had suffered a heart attack and been hospitalized. They rushed to the hospital, finding him in a VIP ward.
The old man scolded Gu Mingzhu, "I told you this was just a condition of old age. This wasn't worth calling Chen and Yangyang about."
Xia Yangyang went to his bedside. "How could we not be told? We'd worry even more."
Seeing her worry, the old man smiled. "I understand my body. But your visit makes me happy."
Gu Mingzhu said, "I found him just in time. He'd collapsed and was barely breathing. The maid was negligent and forgot his medicine. I've dismissed her."
The old man sighed, "You always make a fuss. Now the house has no one to serve tea."
Gu Mingzhu turned to Gu Qichen. "Ah Chen, I'm going to France for a fashion show. You should move back home for a while. I don't trust the new help."
Gu Qichen nodded. "Okay."
Leaving the hospital, Xia Yangyang regretted, "We should have moved back sooner. Today was too dangerous."
Gu Qichen remained calm. "Don't worry. It's just my sister and grandfather's sympathy ploy. They do this every year, hoping I'll move back."
Xia Yangyang was stunned. "You mean Grandfather was faking it?"
Gu Qichen nodded. "Didn't you see how robust he looked? And if something really happened, why wasn't Xiao Han there?"
Xia Yangyang asked, "Then why didn't you expose him?"
Gu Qichen smiled faintly. "The old man has his pride. It would hurt him. Let's just move back for a while. It's the least we can do."
The next day, Xia Yangyang and Gu Qichen moved back home, with no set moving-out date.
